The Union Kitchen Closes Katy Location After Five Years of Community Connection
After five years of bringing families, friends, and neighbors together over globally inspired comfort food, The Union Kitchen in Katy has officially closed its doors. The location at 9920 Gaston Rd., located in the Stableside at Falcon Landing development in Cinco Ranch, served its last guests this month.
The closure was announced through a heartfelt Facebook post by the owners, who expressed deep appreciation for the support they received from the Katy community since opening in June 2020. What began as a soft launch just before Father’s Day quickly became a neighborhood favorite known for its inviting ambiance, scratch-made dishes, and personal touch.
“After five unforgettable years, it’s with incredibly heavy hearts that we share that The Union Kitchen Katy has closed its doors,” the owners shared. “Serving the Katy community has been more than just a job — it has truly been an honor and a pleasure.”

The Union Kitchen is a concept created by Paul Miller, founder of Houston-based Gr8 Plate Hospitality. A graduate of Purdue University—where he studied Restaurant, Hotel, Institutional and Tourism Management—Miller played football and wrestled for the Boilermakers before transitioning into the culinary and hospitality industry. His experiences at Purdue’s student union center served as inspiration for The Union Kitchen’s name and ethos: creating welcoming, community-centered dining environments where good food brings people together.
Miller opened the first Union Kitchen in 2010, and the brand has since expanded to multiple locations across the Greater Houston area. Each restaurant operates with a local flair, allowing Executive Chefs the creative freedom to develop menu items unique to their neighborhood. At the Katy location, that approach helped the restaurant become a go-to spot for locals in the Cinco Ranch and Falcon Landing areas.
Part of the Gr8 Plate Hospitality family—which also includes Jax Grill—The Union Kitchen Katy was designed by Houston’s Boucher Design Group and built by Corinthian Contracting. The 5,100-square-foot space featured 207 seats, including a large patio facing a shared green space, a private banquet room for up to 32 guests, and a full bar.
“A very special thank you to Katy Independent School District for trusting us with your catering orders, staff lunches, teacher celebrations, and school parties — serving the KISD community was something we were incredibly proud of,” the owners added in their farewell. “To our loyal guests and regulars: thank you for choosing us again and again.”
From its popular brunch service to dinners filled with conversation and laughter, The Union Kitchen Katy played a significant role in the local dining scene during a period of rapid growth and change in the Katy area. Its menu featured everything from Carnitas Egg Rolls and Shrimp & Grits to hearty comfort food like Pot Roast and Miller’s Meatloaf—offering something for every taste.

While the Katy location has closed, The Union Kitchen continues to operate at four other Greater Houston locations: Ella Blvd, Memorial, Kingwood, and Cypress (Towne Lake). Each site continues to serve up the same blend of Southern hospitality and globally inspired cuisine that defined the Katy restaurant.
Though the chapter has ended for this particular location, The Union Kitchen Katy leaves behind a legacy of good food, heartfelt service, and lasting connections within the community it proudly served.
