Terry Black’s Barbecue Is Coming to New Braunfels with Two-Story Outdoor Dining and Legendary Central Texas Flavors
One of the most acclaimed names in Texas barbecue is firing up the pits for a brand-new location: Terry Black’s Barbecue is officially coming to New Braunfels.
With a projected completion date in late August 2026, the $5 million project will transform an existing restaurant site at 1310 E Common St, New Braunfels, TX 78130 into an 8,649-square-foot barbecue haven. The new location will include a 7,860-square-foot indoor dining area, an attached pit house, and two-story outdoor dining, giving residents and visitors alike a new place to savor legendary Central Texas-style smoked meats in the heart of Comal County.
A Central Texas Barbecue Legacy Heads South
Terry Black’s Barbecue was founded in 2014 in Austin by brothers Michael and Mark Black, sons of the late Terry Black—himself a member of the first family of barbecue in Lockhart, Texas. Their grandfather, Edgar Black Sr., opened the original Black’s Barbecue in Lockhart in 1932, helping shape what the world now recognizes as Central Texas barbecue.
Michael and Mark branched off to honor their father’s legacy by building their own brand rooted in simple traditions and smoked excellence. Known for long lines that move fast, the original Austin location on Barton Springs Road quickly became a must-visit for brisket lovers. Since then, locations have opened in Dallas, Lockhart, and most recently Waco—each one holding strong to the classic barbecue style with massive indoor/outdoor spaces and family-style hospitality.
Now, with the upcoming Terry Black’s New Braunfels, the Hill Country gets its own taste of the Black family’s smoky success.
What to Expect on the Menu
Terry Black’s offers a full lineup of slow-smoked, salt-and-pepper seasoned meats—each cooked to perfection over post oak wood. Their most celebrated items include sliced brisket, beef ribs, pork ribs, original and jalapeño cheese sausage, and turkey, and chopped beef sandwiches. For families and groups, there are generous Family Packs serving up to 12 people, and catering options are available for private events, weddings, and corporate gatherings.
Sides include Texas staples like mac and cheese, potato salad, creamed corn, pinto beans, and banana pudding, offered in sizes from single servings to gallons.
Terry Black’s also offers chilled meats to-go for fans who want to reheat at home, along with a range of drinks including tea, sodas, beer, and wine.
A Welcoming Atmosphere and Scenic Design
Staying true to the Terry Black’s brand, the New Braunfels location will feature a laid-back roadhouse vibe with plenty of room to gather. The two-story outdoor dining setup promises scenic views and an authentic Hill Country atmosphere perfect for both locals and tourists looking for the real Texas BBQ experience.
The restaurant will make use of the existing site’s parking area, adding ADA-compliant spaces during renovations to ensure accessibility for all guests.
Why This Matters for New Braunfels
Terry Black’s New Braunfels will not only expand the city’s dining scene but also strengthen its reputation as a destination for Hill Country foodies. The restaurant’s arrival aligns with the area’s growing culinary scene and continues the trend of top-tier Austin and Central Texas restaurants expanding into New Braunfels.
With its mix of family tradition, celebrated recipes, and a welcoming environment, Terry Black’s is poised to become a favorite for residents and visitors alike.
As the pitmasters say, come hungry—and be ready for a taste of Texas history.
