Taroko Sports Finally Arrives in San Antonio, Opening Its Largest U.S. Location at Park North
After months of anticipation, Taroko Sports has arrived in San Antonio, bringing batting cages, pitching challenges, arcade games, mini bowling and high-tech baseball experiences under one roof on the city’s North Side.
The Taiwanese sports entertainment brand is celebrating the public grand opening of its first San Antonio location Saturday, Aug. 29, beginning at 11 a.m. at 618 NW Loop 410 inside Park North Shopping Center. At approximately 31,000 square feet, the new venue is Taroko Sports’ largest location in the United States.
For local families, youth baseball and softball players, friend groups and adults looking for something different to do indoors, Taroko brings an unusual mix to San Antonio: part batting facility, part training center and part family entertainment venue.
State Filing Shows $500,000 Buildout at Park North
Before the doors opened, a state permit filing offered an early look at the scale of the San Antonio project.
The filing listed Park North Shopping Center at 618 NW Loop 410 in Bexar County as the project site and described the work as a renovation and alteration covering 31,000 square feet. The scope was listed as a tenant improvement for an indoor batting cage, with an estimated construction cost of $500,000.
According to the filing, work was scheduled to begin Dec. 1, 2025, with an anticipated completion date of April 15, 2026.
Those details help put the finished venue into perspective. What began on paper as a sizeable tenant improvement has now become a full-scale sports entertainment destination designed to accommodate both serious players and families simply looking for a new way to spend an afternoon.
What San Antonio Can Expect Inside Taroko Sports
Baseball remains at the heart of the Taroko Sports experience.
The San Antonio location includes baseball and softball batting cages, pitching areas and HitTrax Swing Suites, which combine batting with real-time performance data and simulated gameplay. HitTrax can track measurements such as exit velocity, launch angle and distance while allowing players to compete in virtual environments modeled after professional ballparks.
But visitors do not have to be serious baseball players to have a reason to walk through the doors.
Taroko Sports also offers miniature bowling, electronic darts, arcade games, food and drinks, along with private party suites designed for birthdays, team celebrations, corporate outings and other gatherings.
That combination is part of what separates Taroko from a traditional batting cage. A family could come with a child who wants extra swings before the next tournament, while siblings head for the arcade and parents grab something to eat — all without changing locations.
The company says bats, helmets and other necessary equipment are available for guests, although players may bring their own equipment. Walk-ins are accepted, while advance booking is recommended for larger groups and events. Guests using the batting cages are required to complete a waiver, with a parent or guardian signing for minors.
A Taiwanese Baseball Concept More Than 20 Years in the Making
Taroko Sports traces its roots to Taiwan in 2003, when Taroko Industries established a baseball and softball batting center around a straightforward idea: making the sport more accessible and giving more people a place to experience the fun of playing it.
More than two decades later, that original batting-centered concept has grown into a broader sports and entertainment business combining training technology, games, food and social experiences.
The company’s U.S. footprint has been expanding as well. Before San Antonio, Taroko Sports established locations in Katy, Texas; Mesa, Arizona; and Chandler, Arizona. The new San Antonio venue becomes its fourth U.S. location and its largest to date.
“For over 20 years, our mission has been to transform the game of baseball into an experience everyone can enjoy,” Taroko Sports Marketing Manager Paul Ponzio said when the San Antonio project was announced. “When we decided to expand and build our largest U.S. venue, we knew San Antonio was the perfect location.”
He pointed specifically to the city’s connection to sports as part of the decision.
“The community’s passion, pride and love of sports align with everything Taroko Sports represents,” Ponzio said. “We’ve poured everything into this location, and we’re excited to finally become a part of the Alamo City!”
Grand Opening Gives San Antonio a First Look
Saturday’s Taroko Sports San Antonio grand opening begins at 11 a.m.
According to Taroko Sports, the first 100 guests will receive a commemorative T-shirt and one hour of unlimited arcade games. The company is also offering 50% off games during opening weekend, with a live DJ among the planned festivities.
The opening adds another experience-driven business to Park North, the retail and entertainment center near Loop 410 and San Pedro Avenue. For San Antonio residents searching for indoor family activities, batting cages, baseball training, arcades or things to do in San Antonio, Taroko introduces an option built around both competition and casual play.
And in a city where youth baseball and softball are part of many families’ weekly routines, that sporting focus could help Taroko feel less like another arcade and more like a place where practice and a family outing can happen at the same time.
