Mr. Crabby’s Cajun Seafood & Bar Expanding to San Antonio’s Far Westside With New Dove Creek Restaurant Planned for 2027

San Antonio / New Braunfels
October 15 2026

San Antonio’s Far Westside continues to welcome new dining options, and seafood lovers in the Dove Creek, Potranco Road and Loop 1604 areas will soon have another restaurant to add to their list. Mr. Crabby’s Cajun Seafood & Bar is planning its third San Antonio-area location at Shops at Dove Creek, bringing its signature seafood boils, Cajun-inspired dishes and a new restaurant concept to one of the area's growing retail destinations.

The restaurant is taking over the former JPOT space at 415 W. Loop 1604 S., Suite 103, San Antonio, TX 78253, with a target opening date of January 1, 2027, according to regional manager Charise Gravelle, who shared details of the expansion with MySA.

For families living in nearby communities along Potranco Road, Highway 151 and the Far Westside, the opening will offer another option for casual dinners, family celebrations and nights out without having to travel across San Antonio for the restaurant's popular seafood dishes.

From JPOT to Mr. Crabby’s: A New Chapter for Shops at Dove Creek

The upcoming Mr. Crabby’s location will occupy a space previously home to JPOT, introducing a different style of dining to the Shops at Dove Creek retail center.

Located near the intersection of Loop 1604 and Potranco Road, Shops at Dove Creek serves surrounding residential communities as a destination for shopping, dining and everyday errands. Its proximity to major roadways also makes it accessible to residents traveling between the Far Westside, Alamo Ranch and other parts of western San Antonio.

For residents on San Antonio’s Far Westside, the new Mr. Crabby’s will mean another place to grab dinner, meet up with friends or enjoy a family meal without driving to another part of town.

While the restaurant's anticipated January 1 opening provides a target for seafood fans, that date remains subject to change as preparations continue. An official grand opening celebration and operating hours have not yet been announced.

What Is Mr. Crabby’s Cajun Seafood & Bar Known For?

For those who have never visited Mr. Crabby’s, the restaurant specializes in Cajun-style seafood boils, a dining experience that allows guests to select their seafood, preferred seasoning and spice level.

Rather than ordering a traditional plated seafood dinner, customers can build a meal around combinations of shrimp, crab, crawfish and other shellfish, served with classic boil accompaniments.

At the existing North Loop 1604 restaurant, seafood selections include shrimp, snow crab, crawfish, mussels, clams, lobster tail and Dungeness crab. Guests can choose seasonings such as Cajun, garlic butter, lemon pepper and Old Bay, with different heat levels available.

Boiled seafood orders include corn, potatoes and sausage, creating a complete meal built around the seafood-boil tradition.

The restaurant's appeal also extends to guests who prefer their seafood fried, tucked into a sandwich or served as a traditional Louisiana-inspired dish.

Menu offerings at the existing location include shrimp and catfish po' boys, fried seafood baskets, gumbo, crawfish étouffée, hushpuppies and boudin balls. Families dining with younger children can find options such as chicken tenders, popcorn shrimp and fish on the children's menu.

These dishes are available at existing Mr. Crabby's restaurants. The full menu and pricing for the Dove Creek location have not yet been released.

A Growing South Texas Seafood Restaurant Brand

Although Mr. Crabby’s may be new to the Far Westside, the restaurant already has a presence in the San Antonio area and other South Texas communities.

Its two existing San Antonio-area locations are:

  • Live Oak: 14601 Interstate 35, serving the northeastern San Antonio area.

  • North San Antonio: 1827 N. Loop 1604 E., providing another option for seafood fans along the city's northern corridor.

Company websites also identify Mr. Crabby’s restaurants in McAllen, Laredo and Corpus Christi, extending the brand's reach through South Texas and into the Coastal Bend.

The expansion to Shops at Dove Creek will give the company a presence on San Antonio's western side, complementing its existing northeastern and northern locations.

For residents who have previously driven to Live Oak or North Loop 1604 to enjoy Mr. Crabby’s, the new location could make the restaurant a more convenient choice for dinner after work, weekend gatherings and family outings.

What Will Make the New Dove Creek Mr. Crabby’s Different?

The Far Westside location is expected to introduce more than the restaurant's familiar seafood-boil menu.

According to Gravelle's comments to MySA, the new Mr. Crabby’s will feature additional menu items and a Caribbean-inspired atmosphere with Cajun influences.

The planned concept suggests a different dining environment from the company's existing restaurants, although specific design elements, new dishes and other features have not yet been disclosed.

Caribbean and Cajun culinary traditions both draw on layered seasonings, seafood and regional cooking techniques, but each has its own distinct history and flavors. How Mr. Crabby's plans to bring those influences together at Dove Creek remains to be seen.

For returning customers, the new concept could offer a reason to visit even if they are already familiar with the restaurant's seafood boils. For first-time guests, it will provide an introduction to the brand in a setting designed specifically for the Far Westside location.

More Than Seafood Boils: Dining, Gatherings and Live Music

Seafood boils are the main attraction at Mr. Crabby’s, but the restaurant also offers options for larger gatherings and special occasions. Its North Loop 1604 location accepts reservations and offers catering and private-party accommodations for birthdays, weddings, company events and other celebrations.

At the Live Oak restaurant, guests can enjoy live music on weekends. Meanwhile, the company's newer North San Antonio location, which opened in early 2026 in the former Tomatillos Restaurant & Bar space, was planned with a Louisiana-inspired design influenced by New Orleans' Bourbon Street. The concept included bars, a courtyard and amenities for families with children.

Mr. Crabby’s hasn't announced whether its Dove Creek location will have live music, private-event areas or similar features. So far, the company has confirmed plans for a Caribbean-inspired atmosphere with Cajun influences, along with new menu items that have yet to be revealed.

What Else Is Near the New Mr. Crabby’s at Shops at Dove Creek?

The restaurant will join an established mix of dining and shopping destinations along the Far Westside's Loop 1604 corridor.

Nearby businesses include Trapper's Sushi Co., P. Terry's Burger Stand, PetSmart and Costco, making the surrounding area a convenient stop for residents combining errands with lunch or dinner.

The former JPOT restaurant opened in 2024 as part of San Antonio's growing interest in Japanese hot pot dining. Its closure has created an opportunity for Mr. Crabby's to introduce a different cuisine to the shopping center.

For the surrounding neighborhoods, the change means another established restaurant operator will occupy an existing commercial space rather than leaving it vacant.

When Will Mr. Crabby’s Open at Dove Creek?

Mr. Crabby's is targeting January 1, 2027, for the opening of its third San Antonio-area restaurant.

A temporary Mr. Crabby's sign has already been installed at the former JPOT location, providing a visible indication that preparations are underway.

Several details remain to be announced, including the final opening date, the complete menu of new Caribbean-inspired dishes, restaurant hours and whether a grand opening celebration is planned.

Residents interested in learning more about the restaurant's existing offerings can visit the official Mr. Crabby's website.

As the Far Westside continues to develop its collection of restaurants, shops and gathering places, Mr. Crabby's upcoming arrival offers another example of how the dining options available to surrounding neighborhoods are changing.
