SweetCup to Bring Unique Gelato Experience to Cypress with New Franchise Location

October 08 2024

SweetCup Gelato & Sorbet Originale, the beloved Houston-based dessert shop, is expanding its reach with a new franchise location in Cypress. Scheduled to open at 20711 Tuckerton Road, Suite 200, construction is currently underway and is expected to conclude by the end of January 2025. This new shop will mark SweetCup’s first venture into franchising.

Founded in 2012 by Jasmine Chida, SweetCup was born from a personal passion for authentic gelato. “In 2011, I had returned from a trip to Italy eager to find the gelato shops and product I fell in love with, but I came up short,” Chida recalled. “Finding a solution to this problem is where SweetCup was born. My passion grew from a personal hobby in my home kitchen into a side gig and then into a leap of faith to chase my dream.”

SweetCup is renowned for its handmade gelato, sorbets, and frozen yogurt, all crafted from scratch using local ingredients. The upcoming Cypress location will feature 48 rotating flavors, including both classic favorites like Stracciatella and Pistachio, as well as innovative options such as Vanilla Bean Tres Leches and Malai Kulfi. “Our goal has always been to create a welcoming space where families and friends can come together to enjoy our unique flavors that represent Houston’s diverse culinary scene,” said Chida.

Gelato, a traditional Italian frozen dessert, differs from ice cream in several key ways. While both are made from similar ingredients, gelato contains less air and fat, resulting in a denser, creamier texture. Additionally, gelato is typically served at a slightly warmer temperature than ice cream, allowing its rich flavors to shine through more vibrantly.

SweetCup’s commitment to quality is evident in its expansive flavor offerings. “I’m grateful to be partnering with our first franchisees that actually live in Cypress and believe in our product,” Chida expressed. “They wanted to share something unique with this special community. Cypress is a wonderful community, and we can’t wait to become a part of it.”

The new location will not only serve a variety of gelato and sorbet but will also offer sundaes and house-made toppings, ensuring there is something for everyone. In addition to the upcoming Cypress shop and their original shop in Houston at 3939 Montrose Boulevard, SweetCup products are currently available at Whole Foods Markets across the Houston area and all Central Markets statewide, allowing fans to enjoy their favorite flavors even before the new store opens.
