Spring ISD to Receive More Than 40,000 Books Through Program with Spring AFT
Students in Spring ISD will soon be able to take advantage of more than 40,000 free books, thanks to a partnership with the school district and the Spring chapter of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).
Through the Reading Opens the World program, the Spring American Federation of Teachers has received a grant for 40,000 books and a $10,000 First Book Marketplace credit to select and purchase high-quality, diverse books to spread the joy of reading and support students and educators. The Spring AFT chapter will donate the books to Spring ISD.
The books will be distributed at the district’s annual Winter Wonderland event, held this year on December 8 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Planet Ford Stadium.
“Literacy is a vital part of any student’s education, and we are so excited to partner with the Spring American Federation of Teachers to ensure that our students have access to quality, free books,” Superintendent Dr. Lupita Hinojosa said. “With 40,000 books available, students attending our Winter Wonderland event will not only be able to take just one book home, but build their entire library at home.”
So far in 2023, the Reading Opens the World program has donated over 1.5 million books to communities and schools with a goal of over 2 million.
