Spring ISD to Hit the Streets During Annual Success Walk to Encourage Student Enrollment
As Spring ISD enters the second month of the 2023-24 school year, district administrators, teachers, and community volunteers will take to the streets on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 9 for the district’s annual Success Walk.
This year’s event will kick off at 9 a.m. at Momentum High School, 14450 T C Jester Boulevard.
Each year, the Success Walk aims to directly reach out to those students who may have not yet returned to class or who are struggling with attendance. The outreach is a part of the district’s EVERYday Counts, Attendance Matters campaign, committed to helping students and families understand that going to school every day and avoiding absences whenever possible is critical to achievement.
Volunteers will canvass neighborhoods in hopes of making contact with students who are either not enrolled in a district school or who have had poor attendance this school year. Volunteers will be equipped with information on resources available through the district for struggling students and parents. A phone bank will also be conducted to reach out to students and families over the phone.
“As we continue to keep our commitment to ensure that all students in Spring have access to education, this Success Walk plays a vital role in fulfilling that promise,” said Spring ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lupita Hinojosa. “Our district offers a wide variety of resources – from after-school programs and free meals to alternative and personalized curriculum programs. Our students need to know that we care about their success, and that means helping them in whatever way possible.”
The event will kick off at Momentum High School, and will highlight that school’s unique services. Momentum offers a path to graduation for students seeking an alternative to the traditional middle school or high school experience, with smaller classes, personalized learning plans, accelerated credit recovery and career training opportunities.
It is designed for students who may have become disconnected or disengaged in their traditional school environment, or those who are looking to accelerate their learning. In addition, counselors and social workers are also available on every school campus to offer academic guidance, mental health services, and additional support to assist students that may be struggling.
