Spring Dash 5K/1K: Running for Hope and Self-Sufficiency with West Houston Assistance Ministries
Everyone's invited to lace up their running shoes and embrace their inner superhero for this year's Spring Dash 5K/1K - a fun-filled event organized by West Houston Assistance Ministries (WHAM). Scheduled for May 18, 2024, at 10501 Meadowglen Lane in Houston, the fun begins at 8:00 AM.
WHAM's annual Spring Dash isn't just a fun run; it serves as a beacon of hope against homelessness and poverty. Participants receive not only a finisher medal, T-shirt, bib, and a swag bag laden with goodies and sponsor gifts, but also the gratification of contributing to a meaningful cause.
The Spring Dash event, besides being a fun-filled day, is a platform to extend a helping hand towards achieving WHAM's mission - transitioning neighbors from crisis to self-sufficiency. The organization offers a range of services, including food, financial support, housing assistance, medical resources, and educational support aimed at fostering job readiness. Founded in 1982 by seven local places of worship, WHAM has since been a pillar of support for children, families, and homeless individuals in crisis within West Houston, providing essential resources to over 130,000 clients each year.
Registration for the 5K is $35 before May 12, but the price increases to $40 between May 13 and May 18. The cost to register for the 1K is $25 before May 12, and will be $30 between May 13 and May 18. Participants are encouraged to don their favorite superhero cape and other accessories.
Looking to support beyond participation? WHAM welcomes sponsorships and volunteer assistance to make the Spring Dash a success. Sponsors receive recognition across various platforms and have an opportunity to set up advertising booths at the event. Volunteers can contact matthew.herrera@whamministries.org or call 713-780-2727, extension 600, to learn more about volunteering opportunities.
Get ready to run, walk, or soar through the course in your favorite superhero attire, for a cause that truly matters. Together, let's stride towards a future where everyone has the ability to thrive and remain self-sufficient.
