Save Lives, Celebrate at Mardi Gras! Galveston: Donate Blood, Get Free Admission

January 18 2024

In a move to kick off the 2024 year with a purpose, the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is partnering once again with Mardi Gras! Galveston. Together, they are challenging the community's need for blood, and urging people to donate blood from January 18 to 24, 2024. In return, donors will receive a complimentary ticket to Mardi Gras! Galveston, the third-largest Mardi Gras celebration in the United States.

Mardi Gras! Galveston is known for its vibrant, island-style festivities and varied events. The compass of the celebration ranges from traditional revelry in Galveston’s historic downtown district to family-friendly parades, ensuring a memorable experience for all.

In this vital partnership, Mardi Gras! Galveston is showing appreciation to blood donors by providing a complimentary general admission ticket, which can be redeemed at the festival on any one of the dates: February 2, 3, 4, 9, or 10, 2024. This gesture is a heartfelt thank-you for the donor’s contribution to the well-being of others across the community, particularly during the winter season.

According to the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, the community traditionally sees a drop in blood donations during this season. This downturn can affect the supply of blood needed for life-saving transfusions, surgeries, organ transplants, emergencies, cancer treatments, childbirth complications, and progress in medical research and development.

Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center plays a pivotal role in supplying blood, blood products, and biotherapies to 170 hospitals in a 26-county area, including the largest medical center in the world, Texas Medical Center. The center needs 1,000 donations every day to best serve area hospitals, a goal that can’t be achieved without the community’s support.

Donating blood is a straightforward, impactful act that can be done every 56 days. The typical whole blood donation only takes approximately an hour, yet the benefits extend far beyond saving numerous lives. The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center urges the community to incorporate blood donation into their regular routine, making it a practical and meaningful way to give back.

The community is invited to join in saving lives, embracing the spirit of giving, and indulging in the festive atmosphere of Mardi Gras! Galveston. For more information, giveblood.org/mardigras.
