San Antonio’s First SKIMS Store Nears Opening at The Shops at La Cantera

San Antonio / New Braunfels
September 18 2026

One of the most closely watched new stores coming to The Shops at La Cantera appears to be nearing the finish line.

San Antonio’s first SKIMS store is expected to open during the first week of October, according to a Sept. 17 report from MySA. A specific opening date has not been announced by SKIMS or The Shops at La Cantera, and the shopping center currently lists the retailer simply as “Coming Soon.”

For shoppers across San Antonio, Boerne, Helotes and surrounding Hill Country communities, the update brings the city closer to getting a permanent location for a brand that has built a major following online while steadily expanding its physical retail presence.

It also adds another recognizable national name to the evolving retail mix at La Cantera, where several new and incoming retailers are reshaping one of the region’s most prominent shopping destinations.

Construction Is Approaching Its Scheduled Completion Date

The SKIMS store is taking shape at 15900 La Cantera Parkway, Suite 1525, in a 3,874-square-foot space previously occupied by Vineyard Vines.

According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the renovation carries an estimated construction cost of $684,500. Work was scheduled to begin June 1 and reach completion Sept. 29.

The project is more than a cosmetic refresh.

State records describe partial demolition of the former storefront, entrances and interior finishes, followed by construction of a new storefront and façade. Plans also include new interior partitions, ceilings, flooring, lighting and mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.

That Sept. 29 date is the construction completion date listed with the state, not an official grand opening date. MySA reported Sept. 17 that the store is expected to debut during the first week of October, although no particular day has been confirmed.

For residents who have been watching the storefront evolve over the summer, however, the reported timeframe suggests the wait may be nearly over.

What San Antonio Shoppers Can Expect From SKIMS

SKIMS describes itself as a “solutions oriented” brand focused on underwear, clothing and shapewear, but its assortment has expanded well beyond the shapewear that first helped establish its name.

Today, the company sells bras, underwear, bodysuits, dresses, loungewear, sleepwear, fleece, T-shirts and tanks, along with men’s apparel and other collections. Its permanent stores give customers something online shopping cannot fully replicate: the ability to see fabrics, compare fits and explore products in person before buying.

For shoppers who want to compare sizing, feel the materials and see how different styles look in person, the new store will offer an experience that is harder to get online.

SKIMS also continues to sell through its own website and stores as well as selected retailers including Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s and Bergdorf Goodman, among others.

From February Filing to Fall Opening

he San Antonio project first surfaced publicly earlier this year through the state construction filing.

When My Neighborhood News reported on the development in February, the filing showed an ambitious transformation planned for Suite 1525, with construction stretching through the summer and into late September.

Now, that original timeline is approaching its scheduled endpoint.

MySA previously reported that the location is replacing Vineyard Vines and sits near retailers including Alo Yoga and Tecovas. The Shops at La Cantera also teased SKIMS as an incoming retailer earlier this year, although its current online directory still stops short of providing an opening date.

That means shoppers should treat the reported first-week-of-October timeframe as an expected opening window rather than a confirmed grand opening appointment.

Another First-to-Market Addition for La Cantera

The SKIMS arrival is also part of a broader story playing out at The Shops at La Cantera.

The center has continued to attract new fashion, beauty, home and lifestyle concepts, including brands entering or expanding their presence in the San Antonio market. Recent and upcoming projects at the property include Dolce & Gabbana, Jo Malone London, Herman Miller and other retailers undergoing new construction or tenant improvements.

For North San Antonio residents, that steady flow of new names means La Cantera is increasingly becoming a place where shoppers can find brands that previously required a trip to another major Texas market or an online order.

SKIMS may be one of the most recognizable examples.

Its arrival also gives the Interstate 10 and La Cantera retail corridor another destination store capable of drawing shoppers from beyond the immediate neighborhood, including residents from across Bexar County and the nearby Hill Country.

What Happens Next

The state’s current construction schedule calls for the SKIMS renovation to be completed Sept. 29, while MySA reports the store is expected to open during the first week of October.

For now, neither SKIMS nor The Shops at La Cantera has posted a specific grand opening date on their public websites. The mall’s directory continues to identify SKIMS as “Coming Soon.”

That makes the next announcement the one local shoppers have been waiting for: exactly when the doors will open.

What began as a construction filing in February is now much closer to becoming a new shopping option for San Antonio, and another sign of the continued transformation underway at The Shops at La Cantera.
