San Antonio Seeks Public Input on Draft River Walk Strategic Plan
The San Antonio River Walk is one of the city’s most recognizable public spaces, serving residents, visitors, downtown businesses and the employees who help keep the area running. Now, the City of San Antonio is asking the public to take another look at where the River Walk may be headed next.
The city will hold its second public meeting for the River Walk Strategic Plan from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, at Central Library, 600 Soledad St. The meeting will give attendees an opportunity to hear how previous public feedback is shaping the draft plan and to speak directly with the project team about early recommendations.
More Than 7,000 People Have Already Weighed In
Public input has already played a significant role in the planning process.
According to the City of San Antonio, a citywide digital survey was completed by 7,320 residents and visitors. The city also hosted its first public input meeting on May 9, 2026, introducing the planning process and giving participants an opportunity to share their initial ideas, concerns and visions for the River Walk’s next chapter.
The Sept. 28 meeting will build on that earlier feedback. Attendees will hear about the input gathered so far, see how it is shaping the draft River Walk Strategic Plan and have an opportunity to provide early feedback on the recommendations now under consideration.
What the River Walk Strategic Plan Is Intended to Do
Led by the City of San Antonio’s Office of Historic Preservation, the River Walk Strategic Plan is being developed to provide a framework for future decision-making and investments related to the historic River Walk.
That makes the current public input process an important part of how the plan develops. The recommendations remain in draft form, and the city is seeking community feedback before the strategic plan moves further through the planning process.
For San Antonio residents, the discussion reaches beyond a single meeting. The River Walk remains a major gathering place for local families and visitors, and decisions about its long-term direction can influence how people experience one of the city’s most prominent public destinations.

Parking at Central Library will be free with a validation ticket.
For residents who have ideas about the River Walk’s future, concerns they want the city to consider or features they hope to see preserved, the upcoming meeting offers a chance to speak directly with the project team while the plan is still taking shape.
