San Antonio Book Festival 2026 Brings 110+ Authors, Free Family Events, and Literary Celebration to Downtown San Antonio

March 17 2026

For many families across San Antonio and beyond, the San Antonio Book Festival has become a day to slow down, gather downtown, and spend time connecting over stories that stick with you long after you leave.

Set for Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the 14th annual San Antonio Book Festival (SABF) will once again transform the Central Library and UT San Antonio Southwest Campus into a vibrant gathering place for readers of all ages. With more than 110 local, regional, and nationally recognized authors and an expected turnout of over 22,000 attendees, the free, family-friendly event continues to solidify its place as one of the most anticipated literary festivals in Texas.

For residents across the San Antonio area and beyond, the festival offers something increasingly valuable: accessible, meaningful community connection through reading—at no cost.

Why the San Antonio Book Festival Matters to Local Families and Readers

At a time when digital distractions dominate daily life, events like the San Antonio Book Festival serve as a reminder of the role reading plays in personal growth, education, and community identity.

“As we celebrate our 14th year, we’re thrilled to welcome the entire community to this free event in the heart of downtown San Antonio. Our lineup this year features a wonderful mix of local, regional, national, and international authors across many genres. There truly is something for everyone from creative memoirs to serious history, from poetry to cooking. On the fiction side there is every genre, including horror, mystery and thriller, romance and romantasy, and so many more.” said Lisa Ayres, executive director of the San Antonio Book Festival.

She continued: “We hear so much in the news about the decline in reading for pleasure, even as research continues to show its importance for both health and quality of life. Reading can help reduce stress, improve cognition, strengthen empathy, and sharpen critical thinking. We want to welcome both avid readers and those who hope to become avid readers to the festival. Come discover an author, find a new book to love, and reconnect with the joy of reading.”

For parents, educators, and community leaders, the festival offers a practical takeaway: a free, engaging way to encourage literacy and curiosity among children and teens, while also providing adults with opportunities to explore new perspectives and ideas.

New Additions and Community Partnerships Expand the Festival Experience

New for 2026, the festival weekend begins with a special ticketed event on Thursday, April 9, featuring Jenna Bush Hager celebrating her publishing imprint, Thousand Voices, and the debut novel Liar’s Dice by Juliet Faithfull.

Beyond author sessions, the festival continues to grow through partnerships with organizations like UTSA Arts, the Carver Community Cultural Center, Gemini Ink, the Writers’ League of Texas, and Ruby City—further embedding the event into San Antonio’s cultural fabric.

“We work hard to build an author lineup that reflects San Antonio culture, and there will be discussions related to both local and national conversations,” said Anna Dobben, literary director of the San Antonio Book Festival.

“The Festival gives form to curiosity – we invite everyone to hear authors talk about their stories, and the stories behind their books. These stories will make you laugh, make you sad, make you upset about the state of the world, and make you feel inspired. Adventure isn’t just found in distant or expensive travel–it’s found at the completely free, family-friendly Book Festival at the heart of downtown San Antonio.”

What Happens Next: How to Attend the 2026 San Antonio Book Festival

Book sales and signings will be hosted by Nowhere Bookshop, a locally owned San Antonio bookstore, offering attendees the chance to meet authors and take home signed copies.

For residents across San Antonio and surrounding communities, the message is simple: this is a free, accessible event that brings together education, culture, and community in one place.

Whether attending for a favorite author, a child’s first book event, or simply to explore something new, the festival continues to reflect a shared identity rooted in curiosity, creativity, and connection.
