Asian Resource Center of San Antonio Breaks Ground on New Cultural Event Center in Stone Oak
A significant new cultural investment is taking shape in North San Antonio as the Asian Resource Center of San Antonio (ARCSA) prepares to break ground on a new $4.5 million facility designed to celebrate Asian heritage, strengthen community connections, and expand educational opportunities throughout Bexar County.
Planned for 20299 Stone Oak Parkway, the new 11,145-square-foot cultural event center will provide a dedicated space for cultural programming, exhibits, workshops, community meetings, classes, and special events. Construction is scheduled to begin on June 17, 2026, with completion anticipated in September 2027. The project is being designed by Stantec.
For San Antonio's growing Asian American community—and for residents interested in learning more about the cultures that help shape the city—the project represents more than a new building. It reflects a broader effort to create a permanent gathering place focused on cultural exchange, education, and community engagement.
A Vision for Unity and Cultural Understanding
Founded in September 2023, the Asian Resource Center of San Antonio is a nonprofit organization established to raise awareness about the rich and diverse heritage of Asian Americans while fostering unity across the community.
According to ARCSA, the future center is envisioned as a multifunctional facility featuring event space, food preparation areas, offices, meeting rooms, and exhibit areas. The building will blend modern design with traditional cultural elements and showcase Asian heritage through artwork and multimedia displays.
In addition to serving as a venue for cultural celebrations, ARCSA plans to develop educational, cultural, and social programming that highlights the diverse histories, traditions, and experiences of Asian American communities throughout San Antonio and Bexar County.
Future programming could also include youth initiatives, workforce development opportunities, economic development activities, training sessions, and community education programs.
Why This Matters for San Antonio
San Antonio is home to a diverse and growing population representing numerous Asian cultures, nationalities, and traditions. While many organizations already host cultural events throughout the city, the new center aims to provide a permanent home where those efforts can be expanded and coordinated year-round.
ARCSA leaders say the center is intended to serve not only Asian American residents but also the broader community by creating opportunities for learning, cultural exploration, and meaningful connections across different backgrounds.
The organization believes the facility can help strengthen understanding between communities while preserving and sharing traditions that have become an important part of San Antonio's cultural landscape.
First Lady of San Antonio Erika Prosper Nirenberg expressed support for the initiative, saying, “This new endeavor gives a place to honor culture and congregate for our fast growing Asian populations. It will be a place for learning for all San Antonians, while deepening the roots of diversity that make our city so special. We are excited to help kick off this vision.”
Bexar County First Lady Raquel "Rachel" M. Dias-Sakai also highlighted the importance of cultural understanding and inclusion, stating, "Each of us have the awesome privilege of ensuring our families and our communities embrace the tapestry of cultures that surround us to build a strong, diverse and resilient place to live, learn and work in harmony and mutual respect."
Leadership Rooted in Community Service
The effort is being led by a team of community leaders with longstanding ties to San Antonio's civic, business, healthcare, and cultural sectors.
Among them is ARCSA President Elisa Chan, a former San Antonio City Council member who made history as the first Asian American woman elected to the council and the first immigrant to serve on the governing body of the city. Chan has spent decades involved in economic development, community leadership, and Asian American advocacy organizations throughout San Antonio.
The organization's leadership also includes Secretary Kausi Subramaniam, a prominent arts and cultural leader known for helping establish Diwali SA, one of the city's largest multicultural festivals; Treasurer Dr. Melinda Rodriguez, a healthcare executive and community advocate involved in San Antonio's sister-city initiatives with Baguio City in the Philippines; and Executive Director Dr. Nelson Tuazon, a nationally recognized nursing leader and healthcare executive with extensive experience in community outreach and professional leadership.
Together, the group represents decades of work dedicated to strengthening cultural understanding, economic opportunity, healthcare advancement, education, and civic engagement across the region.
Groundbreaking Ceremony Scheduled for June 5
Community members will have an opportunity to celebrate the project's next milestone during ARCSA's groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The ceremony will take place on a lot adjacent to 20271 Stone Oak Parkway in San Antonio. Shuttle service will be available from the Walgreens parking lot located at 20226 Stone Oak Parkway.
The event marks the beginning of what ARCSA leaders describe as a long-term investment in cultural preservation, education, and community-building for future generations.
What Happens Next
Following groundbreaking activities, construction is expected to begin later in June and continue through September 2027.
Once completed, the Asian Resource Center of San Antonio is expected to become a destination for cultural celebrations, educational programming, community events, exhibits, and collaborative initiatives that bring together residents from across San Antonio and Bexar County.
As the city continues to grow and diversify, the center aims to create new opportunities for learning, connection, and appreciation of the many cultures that contribute to San Antonio's identity.
