Safe Sitter Class Returns July 18: Helping Young Teens in Raintree Village Build Confidence, Responsibility, and Safety Skills
For many families in Raintree Village, there comes a moment when parents start asking an important question: Is my child ready to stay home alone or care for younger siblings?
Harris County Emergency Services District No. 48 (HCESD 48), the fire department serving Raintree Village, is offering a practical way to help answer that question with its next Safe Sitter Class, scheduled for Friday, July 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the HCESD 48 station located at 21201 Morton Road in Katy.
Designed for young teens who are beginning to take on more responsibility, the nationally recognized Safe Sitter program teaches students essential skills for staying safe when home alone, caring for younger children, and responding appropriately during emergencies.
More Than a Babysitting Class
While many families associate Safe Sitter with babysitting, the program covers much more than childcare basics.
Students learn first aid fundamentals, safety skills, emergency preparedness, and how to handle unexpected situations with confidence. The class also includes hands-on activities using CPR manikins, interactive games, and real-world scenarios designed to keep students engaged throughout the day.
The program can be especially beneficial for teens who are beginning to watch younger siblings, stay home on their own during the summer, or work toward earning Babysitting or First Aid badges through organizations such as Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.
A Valuable Resource for Families in Raintree Village
As children grow more independent, many parents want reassurance that they are prepared to make good decisions when adults are not immediately available.
Programs like Safe Sitter help bridge that gap by teaching responsibility while giving families greater peace of mind. For residents of Raintree Village, it is also an opportunity to learn directly from local first responders who understand the importance of emergency readiness and personal safety.
