Registration Now Open for Stageworks Theatre's 2025 Summer Acting Academy in Houston

March 25 2025

Stageworks Theatre has officially opened registration for its 2025 Summer Semester at the Stageworks Acting Academy, inviting young performers across Houston to participate in an immersive theatre experience designed for students ages 5 to 18. The acclaimed northwest Houston performing arts center will offer a diverse slate of performance camps and classes beginning in June, with productions ranging from classic radio plays to high-energy musicals.

With youth theatre camps growing in popularity as families seek enriching summer activities, Stageworks Theatre’s Academy continues to serve as a leading destination for young talent to explore the performing arts. Each summer semester session includes auditions, rehearsals, and fully-staged productions open to the public.

Spotlight on the 2025 Summer Lineup

This summer’s program includes four major theatrical productions tailored for different age groups:

  • “Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play (Teen Edition)” (Ages 13–18) runs June 2–29. Teen performers will recreate suspenseful scenes from Alfred Hitchcock’s classics in the style of 1940s radio broadcasts, culminating in three public performances on the Garza Mainstage. Register here.

  • “Disney’s Dare to Dream JR.” (Ages 8–14) takes place June 9–29. Featuring songs from Encanto, Frozen II, and Coco, this new Disney revue encourages kids to explore their dreams through music and performance. The three-week camp concludes with four performances at the Fischer Blackbox. Register here.

  • “Madagascar JR.” (Ages 8–14) runs June 9–July 13, excluding July 3 and 4. Based on the DreamWorks animated film, this musical adventure follows zoo animals on an unexpected journey. Performances are scheduled for July 11–13. Register here.

  • “Rock of Ages: Youth Edition” (Ages 13–18) will rehearse from June 23–July 20. Featuring 1980s rock anthems, this story of fame and love on the Sunset Strip will wrap with four performances July 18–20. Register here.

A Platform for Passion and Growth

The Stageworks Acting Academy was developed to provide youth theatre classes and summer camps in Houston that not only hone performance skills but also nurture creativity, collaboration, and confidence. The Academy’s curriculum spans acting, vocal training, and dance techniques in a supportive, professional environment. Led by experienced directors and teaching artists, the summer semester offers young actors the chance to work with peers, build self-esteem, and perform in front of live audiences.

Stageworks Theatre was founded in 2005 and rebranded in 2018 to reflect its growing commitment to education and community outreach. Today, it is considered one of the top performing arts organizations in northwest Houston, offering a year-round calendar of professional and youth productions.

Theatre and Summer Learning: A Winning Combination

According to the National Summer Learning Association, participation in summer enrichment programs can help prevent academic learning loss and improve critical social-emotional skills. Theatre education, in particular, has been shown to enhance empathy, communication, and collaboration among students.

A report from the American Alliance for Theatre & Education (AATE) highlights that students involved in theatre are more likely to excel in reading, maintain better attendance, and demonstrate stronger emotional intelligence. “Theatre provides youth with a creative outlet that supports cognitive and social development,” the AATE notes. “Summer programs help bridge the gap between academic years while fostering lifelong skills.”

Limited Spots and High Demand

Due to high demand in previous years, Stageworks Theatre urges families to register early, as spots for summer theatre camps often fill up quickly. All programs take place at Stageworks Theatre’s state-of-the-art facilities, including the Garza Mainstage and Fischer Blackbox Theatre.

For parents seeking summer theatre camps, youth acting classes Houston, or performing arts camps for kids, Stageworks Theatre’s summer offerings provide a dynamic, educational, and fun-filled alternative to traditional day camps.
