Red Wolf Day Camp Returns June 2025 with Fun, Adventure, and Learning for Local Cub Scouts

April 09 2025

Scouting families across Northwest Houston are gearing up for one of the most anticipated summer events of the year: Red Wolf Day Camp under the theme "Invention Convention". Scheduled for June 9–13, 2025, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Timothy Lutheran Church (located at 14225 Hargrave Rd.), the camp invites Cub Scouts entering 1st through 5th grade to experience a week of outdoor adventure, hands-on learning, and lasting friendships.

Organized entirely by local volunteers, Red Wolf Day Camp blends classic Scout fun—BB guns, archery, crafts, games, and STEM activities—with meaningful rank advancement opportunities tailored to each age group. This camp is part of Scouting America’s council-wide summer programming and serves as a key step in building skills and confidence through outdoor experiences. The event is hosted by the Red Wolf District, which serves Scouting units in the eastern and southwestern portions of the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, specifically areas south of West Road and west of Eldridge Parkway, within the Cy-Fair ISD attendance zones in northwest Harris County.

“Day camp is where many Cub Scouts discover their love for the outdoors and realize how much they can achieve,” said Alyson White, Red Wolf Day Camp Chair. “It’s not just about fun—it’s about growth, friendship, and self-confidence.”

Campers will participate in themed activities aligned with their grade-level “adventures,” such as Air of the Wolf, Marble Madness, Art Explosion, and Into the Wild, helping Scouts make progress toward their next rank in a lively and supportive environment. Parents receive a summary of completed achievements at the end of the week to share with their Scout's den leader.

A Camp Built by Volunteers—and for the Whole Family

Red Wolf Day Camp wouldn’t be possible without the commitment of its dedicated volunteers. Adults, Scouts BSA members, and older youth are all encouraged to lend a hand. In fact, adult volunteers can register their non-Scouting children ages 3–5 (potty trained) for the camp’s Tot Lot, ensuring the entire family can be part of the experience.

“When families volunteer together, they become a bigger part of the Scouting journey,” White added. “It’s inspiring to see parents and teens mentoring younger Scouts and building this camp from the ground up.”

Volunteers are needed for a variety of roles—everything from den walkers to safety staff to craft and archery instructors. All adults must complete Youth Protection Training, background checks, and attend one of several orientation sessionsoffered in April, May, or June. Volunteer training is required by the state of Texas and helps ensure camp safety and consistency.

Registration and What to Know

The registration fee is $80 and includes a camp T-shirt, patch, water bottle, and all program supplies. All participants must be registered with Scouting America. Camp is open to youth entering 1st–5th grade, with a parent or guardian required onsite for Tiger Scouts (1st grade) and Tot Lot participants. A minimum adult-to-youth ratio of 1:3 must be met for every pack attending.

Registration closes on May 26, 2025. Register now at shacbsa.doubleknot.com.

Scholarships are available through the Campership Program, which helps ensure that every Scout has access to outdoor programs regardless of financial circumstances.

Safety and Accreditation

Red Wolf Day Camp is licensed through the Texas Department of State Health Services and follows all National Camp Accreditation Program (NCAP) standards. All staff and volunteers follow Scouting America’s Guide to Safe Scouting, ensuring youth protection, health, and safety remain a top priority throughout the week.

Camp drop-off begins at 2:30 p.m., and carpooling is highly recommended. A designated Lost & Found area will be maintained at check-in, with any unclaimed items donated after the event.

For questions about volunteering, registration, or camp details, contact Camp Chair Alyson White or visit the Sam Houston Area Council website. Don't forget to register by May 26 at shacbsa.doubleknot.com!
