Ready Harris Urges Residents to Prepare as Tropical Storm Francine Approaches the Gulf Coast
September 09 2024
The Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HCOHSEM) continues to monitor the course of Tropical Storm Francine as it moves near the coast of the western Gulf of Mexico. Francine is the sixth named storm of the 2024 hurricane season.
According to the National Hurricane Center, Francine is expected to become a hurricane over the next 24-48 hours before it reaches the Louisiana Gulf Coast by the middle of the week. The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Warning for parts of Southeast Harris County. Locally, 1-3 feet of storm surge is expected from Freeport to High Island and around Galveston Bay. Residents should be weather aware and check local media and updated forecast information daily. Excessive rainfall and road closures are possible in those areas.
