Ready Fort Bend Expo Returns May 3 with Emergency Preparedness, Family Fun, and Free Resources

April 04 2025

As hurricane season approaches, Fort Bend County is once again inviting residents to take proactive steps toward emergency readiness with the return of the Ready Fort Bend Expo, scheduled for Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds – Building C in Rosenberg, TX.

Hosted by Fort Bend County Homeland Security & Emergency Management in partnership with Fort Bend County CERT, this free, family-friendly event is open to all county residents and aims to equip the community with the knowledge, tools, and resources needed to prepare for all types of hazards—ranging from hurricanes and floods to industrial accidents and power outages.

“The primary goal of the expo is to educate and encourage everyone to familiarize themselves with some of the hazards that could potentially affect this area and make an emergency plan,” said Greg Babst, Emergency Management Coordinator for Fort Bend County.

Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, the 2025 Ready Fort Bend Expo will feature a wide variety of emergency preparedness exhibitors, interactive activities for kids, door prizes, and a unique opportunity to explore emergency response vehicles up close.

A Day of Preparedness, Discovery, and Fun

The inaugural expo in 2024 drew hundreds of families and individuals from across Fort Bend County. Organizers anticipate even greater attendance this year, especially with a packed lineup of attractions, including:

  • Touch-a-Truck Emergency Response Display featuring fire engines, hazmat trucks, rescue boats, military vehicles, helicopters, and law enforcement units
  • Free Child Photo ID and Fingerprinting services from the United States Secret Service
  • Kids’ Korner activities including face painting by Sylvia Knowles, a bounce house, and appearances from Fort Bend County Kids & Cops
  • Exhibits and information booths from organizations like Texas Parks & Wildlife, the YMCA, and various public safety agencies
  • Door prize giveaways, including emergency kit supplies and the chance to win a generator
  • Bingo Scavenger Hunt with prizes for participants who explore exhibitor booths

The event not only offers hands-on learning about emergency preparedness, but also fosters deeper engagement between the community and local emergency responders.

“The secondary goal is to make this expo family-friendly, so there are some fun activities planned for the kids,” added Babst. “We want families to feel welcome while also walking away with important information.”

Why Emergency Preparedness Matters

According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), only 44% of Americans have a household emergency plan—a statistic that underscores the importance of community-based education initiatives like the Ready Fort Bend Expo.

“Community expos like this are critical in closing the preparedness gap,” notes a report by the American Red Cross, which emphasizes that local engagement leads to higher disaster readiness, especially among vulnerable populations and families with young children.

With hurricane season beginning on June 1, the timing of this event is no coincidence. Residents will have access to expert guidance on creating emergency kits, developing evacuation plans, and understanding early warning systems and alerts.

Stay Informed. Be Ready.

Organizers encourage families to attend together, bring questions, and plan to stay for the full four hours to enjoy all that the event has to offer. Winners of door prizes must be present to claim their items.

“Be prepared. Stay prepared,” is the guiding message behind this year’s expo, and Fort Bend County is making sure residents have every opportunity to do just that—while having a little fun along the way.
