PowerSchool Enrollment Opens July 25 for New Katy ISD Students Ahead of 2025-26 School Year
As summer speeds ahead and the new school year draws nearer, Katy Independent School District is preparing to welcome nearly 97,000 students back to class this August. For families new to the district or returning after a withdrawal, PowerSchool Enrollment for the 2025-26 school year will officially open Friday, July 25. Meanwhile, returning families can access the Annual Student Enrollment Update beginning Monday, July 28.
PowerSchool, the district’s secure, user-friendly online registration platform, streamlines enrollment by allowing families to submit required documents electronically and verify student information before the school year begins.
“Katy ISD serves nearly 97,000 students, and we look forward to welcoming them, along with new students and families, when school resumes in August,” said Dr. Emily Craig, assistant superintendent for secondary school leadership and support in Katy ISD. “PowerSchool makes it easy for new families to register their children for a smooth start to the year, and all returning Katy ISD families can verify that their children’s enrollment details are accurate and current.”
New Student Registration Requirements
To register, parents and guardians will need to create an account through the Katy ISD PowerSchool Enrollment Portal. A new student is defined as any child who has never attended Katy ISD or is re-enrolling after withdrawal.
Families must upload or submit the following documentation:
- Proof of residence dated within the last 30 days (e.g., utility bill, lease agreement, or home purchase contract)
- Student’s official birth certificate (passport may be temporarily used but birth certificate must be submitted within 30 days)
- Student’s Social Security card (if available)
- Government-issued photo ID of the registering parent or guardian
- Immunization records certified by a healthcare provider
- Most recent report card or transcript, including 8th-grade records for high school registrants
Students entering pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, or first grade must meet the Texas Education Code age eligibility guidelines. For example, kindergartners must be five years old by September 1.

Special Residency Situations and Affidavits
In cases where a student resides with a grandparent or in a home where the guardian’s name is not on the utility bill, notarized affidavits and additional documentation are required. All documents must be notarized by a Texas Notary.
Examples of required forms include:
- Exhibit F & G: For enrollment based on grandparent’s address and after-school care
- Exhibit H & I: For students living with another family or where the guardian is not on the lease or utility bill
Falsifying residency information for enrollment is a felony under Texas Penal Code Section 37.10. It is important to note that Katy ISD reserves the right to request additional documentation to verify a student’s residence. Relevant forms can be found on the Katy ISD website here.
Intended Residency and Transfer Requests
Families in the process of buying or leasing a home in Katy ISD may request enrollment based on intended residency. Deadlines vary:
- If moving within district boundaries: Must move in within 5 months.
- If moving from outside the district: Must move in within 60 days.
Transfer requests related to intended residency are not required if move-in occurs before September 1. However, no transfers for the current year may be submitted after Spring Break. More information is available on the Student Transfer Page.
Immunization Compliance Is Mandatory
All students must meet Texas Department of State Health Services immunization requirements before attending class. Immunization records must be presented during registration and must be legible and in English. Provisional enrollment is only permitted under specific conditions. For exemption criteria or a complete vaccine list, visit the Katy ISD Health Services Department or call 281-396-2629.
