Pepper Lunch Bringing Its Sizzling Hot Plates to Kyle Park Near Sunset Oaks
There are restaurants where dinner arrives ready to eat, and then there is Pepper Lunch, where the sizzle is part of the experience. The Japanese-born restaurant concept has signed on for Kyle Park near I-35 and Bebee Road, giving Sunset Oaks diners a different kind of restaurant to look forward to as the development fills in.
The idea is simple but decidedly hands-on. Pepper Lunch serves ingredients on iron plates heated to about 500 degrees, allowing guests to stir, sauce and finish cooking their meal at the table. Its signature Beef Pepper Rice combines sliced beef, rice and corn, while the menu also stretches into teriyaki, curry, steak, seafood and other sizzling dishes.
Pepper Lunch traces its beginnings to Japan in 1994 and has since carried the hot-plate concept to diners around the world. Its North American operation describes the experience as DIY teppanyaki, with the customer playing a much bigger role in the final few moments of the meal than at a typical fast-casual restaurant.
Kyle Economic Development has reported that a franchisee signed a lease for approximately 1,950 square feet at Kyle Park. The restaurant space is expected to be delivered in September 2027, with a possible February 2028 opening. In other words, nobody should start making dinner plans yet, but the lease gives the project more substance than a simple rumor.
Pepper Lunch would also arrive as one piece of a much larger destination. Kyle Park is bringing together retail, restaurants and other amenities near I-35 and Bebee Road, creating the possibility that a future trip from Sunset Oaks could cover shopping and dinner without bouncing between several parts of town.
There is still plenty that can change between now and 2028. The February target is an anticipated opening rather than a firm grand-opening date. But when Pepper Lunch does arrive, the sound of dinner hitting a scorching iron plate should make it one of the more unique additions to Kyle Park.
