Pattison Elementary School Set for Major Expansion and Upgrades Under Katy ISD 2023 Bond Package
In a significant infrastructure boost to the Pattison Elementary School in Katy ISD, a substantial campus expansion project is about to begin. Falling under the umbrella of the Katy ISD 2023 Bond Package, construction of the project is slated to kick off in early October, with completion anticipated before the start of the 2025-2026 academic year.
The bond package, totaling an allocation of $10,560,000 for Pattison Elementary, sees the school set to benefit from a significant boost in square footage, with the construction of a 15,822 sq. ft. building addition that includes 10 new classrooms and various support spaces. The estimated cost of this particular upgrade, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), is $8,800,000.
Since its establishment in 1989 with 674 students, Pattison Elementary School has seen a consistent increase in student numbers, with over 1,200 students registered for the 2023-2024 academic year. Growing student numbers have necessitated the use of 10 double portable buildings, equivalent to 20 traditional classrooms. Thanks to the 2023 Bond Package, the planned enhancements should reduce the reliance on portable classrooms, creating more conducive learning environments.

The 2023 Bond Package includes a broad array of other enhancements to Pattison Elementary, including the replacement of chalkboards with marker boards, security fencing, upgrades to campus technology, cybersecurity infrastructure, and a student to Chromebook ratio of 1:1. Additionally, it will see the refurbishment of the phone system, printers, network switches, uninterrupted power supplies (UPS), and servers.
VLK Architects, Inc., who has worked to improve Pattison Elementary in the past, is the architect firm leading the project. The firm's prior contributions include a total interior reconstruction in 2018, which involved major renovations across the administration, life skills spaces, and science lab. These previous upgrades comprised the replacement of doors, casework, finishes, room signage and graphics, with new paint and ceilings applied throughout. Furthermore, substantial renovations were made to the kitchen and serving areas, restrooms were updated to meet ADA standards, and life safety and HVAC systems were replaced throughout the facility.
As Pattison Elementary School prepares for this next era of enhancement, students, faculty, and the Katy ISD community await the benefits that these significant upgrades will bring to the learning experience.
