Qatra Specialty Coffee Plans a Cinco Ranch Shop at Former Starbucks Location
Qatra Specialty Coffee is preparing to bring Yemeni coffee, specialty drinks and sweets to 22020 Westheimer Parkway in Cinco Ranch, taking over the former Starbucks space at the Kroger shopping center near South Mason Road.
The company's official location page lists the Katy shop as coming soon. Owner Basel Aldabyani shared a mid-to-late October opening target with Community Impact in late September; a firm opening day has not been announced.
A coffee menu with Yemeni roots
Qatra's published menu puts Yemeni specialties alongside familiar espresso drinks. Options include Adeni chai, mufawar, qishir and Yemeni black tea, as well as Yemeni, pistachio and Spanish lattes.
The wider menu includes pour-over coffee, cold brew, matcha drinks and fruit refreshers. Its sweets range from honeycomb bread and almond croissants to milk cakes and kunafa cheesecake. These are offerings on the brand's menu; the final selection and prices for Cinco Ranch have not yet been posted.
The company already lists operating locations in San Antonio and Clemmons, North Carolina, and is also preparing a Spring location. The Cinco Ranch project is part of that expansion into the Houston area.
A familiar gathering place gets a new tenant
The space's history is part of the local interest. Starbucks closed the location in September 2025, and Qatra's plans bring a new coffee business to an address that already had a neighborhood following.
Aldabyani told Covering Katy that readers' comments about losing a community gathering place helped draw his attention to the site. The former shop had no drive-through, putting the focus on customers coming inside. Qatra's plans emphasize that same opportunity to sit down and spend time over coffee.
Exterior signage was in place by late August while renovations continued. The October target is still a projected opening window, so residents should check Qatra's Cinco Ranch page for an opening announcement before making a trip. The brand's menu offers an early look at its drinks and food.
