November Programs at Mission Bend Branch Library
Fort Bend County Libraries’ Mission Bend Branch Library, 8421 Addicks Clodine Road in northeast Fort Bend County, presents a variety of free children’s programs, Young Adult programs for teens, and special events for people of all ages each month.
LIBRARY CLOSINGS
November 11 – Veterans’ Day
CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS
(Please note that unfortunately, the library is unable to accommodate daycares and school groups at these activities.)

Mother Goose Time – Thursdays, 10:15-10:45 am – provides caregiver/infant multisensory circle-time activities -- including simple sign language, folksongs and lullabies, and finger plays -- that are especially designed to stimulate babies’ social, emotional, and physical development through rhythm and music. Mother Goose Time is intended for pre-walking infants from age 1 month to 12 months. This activity will NOT take place on November 24; the library will be closed for the holiday.

Toddler Time – Wednesdays, 10:15-11:00 am – offers structured caregiver/child activities, stories, songs, and age-appropriate take-home craft activities for older babies, from 1 to 3 years of age.
- Preschool Story Time – Tuesdays, 10:15-11:00 am – presents stories, movies, and age-appropriate take-home craft activities for children 3 to 6 years of age. This activity will NOT take place on November 8 because of elections.
- Pajama Night Story Time – Wednesdays, November 2, 16, and 30, 6:30-7:15 pm – gives families with children of all ages an evening option for some activities presented during the day time.
- After-School Break: Game Day – Thursday, November 10, 4:15-5:15 pm. Story and a variety of games for school-aged children in grades K through 5.
- Hour of Tech: Intro to MS Excel – Monday, November 14, 6:00-7:00 pm. Each month, a different homework resource or computer application will be featured for students ingrades 4-8. Seating is limited and reservations are required. - Creative Connection: Greg Heffley’s Turkey Run – Saturday, November 19, 2:30-3:30 pm. Youth in grades 5-8 will enjoy fun activities and screen time with a favorite book character.
YOUNG ADULT PROGRAMS

Young Adult Advisory Council – Wednesday, November 2, 7:00 pm, Conference Room. During this monthly meeting, teens in grades 9-12 are invited to express ideas, organize upcoming activities, and suggest new programs and books that would be of interest to young adults at the library. Earn volunteer/service hours and meet new friends while helping to shape the future of library services for teens!
- “Teen Readers Meet-Up” – Wednesday, November 16, 7:00 pm, Conference Room. In this informal gathering, meet with other teens to talk about what everyone is reading, watching, listening to, or playing – and maybe discover a new favorite!
ADULT PROGRAMS

“NaNoWriMo 101” – Saturday, November 5, 2:00 pm, Computer Lab. Library staff from the Adult Services department will provide an overview of the writing initiative, how it works, and how to get started. Registration required.

Mission Bend Book Club – Wednesday, November 9, 7:00 pm, Conference Room. The book to be discussed is The Little Paris Bookshop, written by Nina George. This book is available in print, audio on CD, and digitally as an ebook and e-audiobook on OverDrive; please call the library to check availability of additional print copies. This book club meets on the second Wednesday of every month. New members invited to attend!

“Adulting 101: Basic Sewing Skills” – Saturday, November 12, 2:00-3:30 pm, Meeting Room. This workshop will cover basic sewing skills to tackle mending holes, fixing ripped seams, or replacing a button. Practice threading needles, simple stitches, and techniques to make quick repairs to fabrics. Supplies will be provided, but participants may bring their own project to work on. Registration required.

Spanish Conversation Circle – Monday, November 14, 2:00-3:00 pm, Meeting Room; presented in Spanish. Spanish-language learners are invited to attend this monthly meeting, where they will have an opportunity to practice their Spanish language and conversation skills in a casual, relaxed setting. This program takes place on the 2nd Monday of every month.

“No Glitter Please” Craft Club – Thursday, November 17, 2:00-3:00 pm, Conference Room. In this monthly craft club, which meets on the 3rd Thursday of every month, craft enthusiasts of all experience levels – from beginners to advanced – who enjoy any type of crafting are invited to attend to get other crafters’ perspectives, critiques, and suggestions. Chat and network with other crafters who enjoy anything from art and needlework to woodwork and much more! Those attending should bring their projects and their own crafting supplies. Samples of the library’s instructional books, magazines, and websites on various crafts will be available. Crafters are invited to come and go as time permits.
- “Adult Craft: Hemp Bracelets” – Monday, November 21, 2:00 pm, Conference Room. Hemp bracelets are a fun, ecofriendly type of jewelry. In this class, learn how to use twine and different knots to make unique hemp bracelets. Registration required.
ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL)
- ESL Conversation Circles - Wednesdays, November 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30; 2:00-3:00 pm; Meeting Room; presented in English. This program is for individuals of all nationalities who would like a place to practice their English language and conversation skills. The “ESL Conversation Circles” provide an opportunity for non-English-speaking people to gather in a relaxed setting, and discuss topics of their own choosing while practicing their English skills.
ADULT COMPUTER CLASSES
All computer classes will take place in the Computer Lab. Registration is required. Canva Intermediate – Thursday, November 17, 2:00 pm. This class presents intermediate instruction on using Canva to create flyers, posters, newsletters, or social-media graphics. Canva is a free, web-based design software program that can be used to make appealing graphics for both business and personal use.
- eLibrary Q&A – Thursday, November 10, 2:00-4:00 pm, Computer Lab. Library staff is available to assist with questions about downloading the library’s eLibrary collection of free ebooks, e-audiobooks, music, and TV shows to eReaders, tablets, and smartphones. Those attending can bring their personal electronic device. Attendees should have a working email address and correct log-in information for their devices. (Reservations are not required for this come-and-go session.)
