November Brings Books, Balloons, and Beyond at Maud Marks Library

Throughout November, the Maud Smith Marks Branch Library in Katy is opening its doors with a packed schedule of events designed to inspire creativity, community, and connection for Katy Communicator residents of all ages. From hands-on STEM activities and early literacy storytimes to tech-savvy workshops and sweet seasonal treats, the library’s November 2025 calendar is brimming with opportunity for local engagement.

Located at 1815 Westgreen Blvd, Katy, TX 77450, Maud Marks Library will also serve as a polling site this month, offering early voting on November 1 (7 AM – 7 PM) and hosting voters again on Election Day, November 4 (7 AM – 7 PM).

November Highlights at Maud Marks Library

 
For Teens and Tweens
  • Cupcake Decorating (Nov. 6, 4:30–5:30 PM): A sprinkle-filled session for grades 4–12. Tickets required, available 30 minutes prior to event.

  • Lego Challenge (Nov. 11, 4:30–5:30 PM): Team-based creative builds for grades 4–12.

  • Tabletop Games & Chess (Nov. 13, 4:30–5:30 PM): From classic games to card decks, youth in grades 3–12 are invited to play.

  • Teen Anime Club (Nov. 18, 4:30–5:30 PM): Watch anime, share snacks, and connect with fellow fans.

  • Pokémon Club (Nov. 20, 4:30–5:30 PM): Bring your binder, battle it out, and trade (with parent permission).

For Younger Children
  • Read & Rhyme Storytime (Tuesdays, 10:15 AM): Preschool storytime for ages 3–5, except Nov. 4.

  • Preschool Explorers (Tuesdays, 11:15 AM): Sensory learning fun for preschoolers, except Nov. 4.

  • Patty Cake Infant Storytime (Wednesdays, 10:15 & 11:15 AM): For babies 3–18 months, except Nov. 5.

  • Toddler Time (Thursdays, 10:15 & 11:15 AM): Songs, dance, and reading for toddlers 18–35 months.

  • Wednesday Wonders (Nov. 5, 12 & 19, 4:30–5:30 PM): After-school crafts and Lego challenges for ages 6–11.

For Adults & Families
  • DIY Workshop (Nov. 11, 2 PM): Make yarn-wrapped pumpkins for a festive fall centerpiece. Registration required.

  • 3D Printer Orientation (Nov. 12, 6–8 PM) and Laser Cutter Orientation (Nov. 1, 10 AM–12 PM): Learn how to use library maker tools.

  • Cricut Orientation (Nov. 17, 6–8 PM): Explore the design possibilities with Cricut crafting machines.

  • Book Discussion – Booked This Afternoon (Nov. 13, 2 PM): Discuss Crow Mary by Kathleen Grissom.

  • Read to a Dog – Paws for Therapy (Nov. 8, 11 AM–12 PM): Children ages 5–11 can practice reading aloud to trained therapy dogs. Sign up at the front desk.

  • Puzzle Swap (Nov. 22, 2 PM): Bring two gently used puzzles and take home two new ones. Swap tickets available for advance drop-offs.

  • LinkedIn to Hired (Nov. 5, 6:30 PM): Career coach Nakiya Parkes leads this workshop on optimizing LinkedIn for job seekers.

  • Thriving as a STEM Major (Nov. 15, 11 AM): High school and college students will gain tools to succeed in science, tech, engineering, and math fields.

  • Balloon Blasters STEM Event (Nov. 15, 2 PM): Youth ages 8–12 can build balloon-powered cars and explore Newton’s Laws in action.

Friends of the Library Book Sale

Don’t miss the library’s always-popular November Book Sale on Saturday, November 8 from 10 AM – 4 PM. From novels to children’s titles, there’s something for everyone at bargain prices. Friends of the Library members get early access on Friday, November 7, 4–5:30 PM.

The library will close early at 5 PM on Wednesday, November 26, and remain closed for the Thanksgiving holiday through Sunday, November 30.
