Nottingham Country MUD to Begin Pavilion and Playground Enhancement Project in Greenbelt Park

Nottingham Country MUD to Begin Pavilion and Playground Enhancement Project in Greenbelt Park

May 09 2025

Exciting enhancements are on the horizon for residents of Nottingham Country Municipal Utility District (MUD), as the District prepares to launch a comprehensive pavilion and playground enhancement project at Greenbelt Park, located near Cobble Springs Drive and Highland Knolls Drive in Katy. The new construction project, officially permitted and set to begin in early August, 2025, is estimated to cost $891,512 and is slated for completion by early December 2025.

Major Park Improvements Coming to Greenbelt Park

The scope of work for the Greenbelt Park enhancements includes the addition of a new pavilion, upgraded playground equipment, walking paths, fencing, site furniture, and updated landscaping. These upgrades are designed to elevate the park's overall functionality and aesthetics, further supporting community health, safety, and outdoor enjoyment.

The improvements are part of the District’s ongoing commitment to maintain and improve public amenities using public funds. This initiative falls under the larger umbrella of the Nottingham Country MUD Capital Improvement Plan, which outlines infrastructure investments over a ten-year span.

Funding and Community Investment

According to public documents, the 2025 MUD budget includes $1,306,107 allocated specifically for park improvements. This new phase of improvements builds upon previous enhancements and represents a significant investment in quality-of-life for Nottingham Country residents.

The current project joins the legacy of prior park enhancements, such as the Eagle Scout project completed in January 2012 by Benjamin Monk, who installed new quarter-mile markers along the park’s two-mile outer trail. In a commendation at the time, the Board recognized Monk’s dedication to improving community navigation and fitness amenities.

The 44-acre Greenbelt Park already boasts an impressive array of features, including over 900 trees representing 17 different varieties, two miles of trails, picnic tables, park benches, and more. Lighting upgrades made in 2006, including the addition of timer-controlled trail lights and upgraded double-arm perimeter lamp posts, have made the park more accessible and safer for users during non-daylight hours.

Long-Term Vision for Nottingham Country Parks

The new amenity enhancements are just the latest milestone in a long-standing vision to develop a safe, scenic, and inclusive community recreation area. According to District records, improvements like these are shaped in part by resident feedback gathered during public meetings, ensuring that projects reflect the evolving needs of the Nottingham Country community.

From trail safety to family-friendly features, every upgrade aims to be a step forward in making Greenbelt Park a central, welcoming space for all ages.

What’s Next?

Once completed, the upgraded pavilion and playground will offer expanded opportunities for outdoor gatherings, family outings, and recreation. For additional information or to join the conversation in shaping your community, contact the Nottingham Country MUD at nottinghammud.com/contact.
