New Katy ISD Junior High #19 Coming to Schlipf Road: What the $77.5M Campus Means for Northwest Katy Families

February 19 2026

For families living in northwest Katy, growth isn’t just something they read about — it’s something they feel every morning in school drop-off lines, neighborhood traffic and packed campus events. Now, Katy Independent School District is preparing to respond in a significant way.

Katy ISD Junior High #19 is scheduled to begin construction in June 2026 at 2220 Schlipf Road, Katy, TX 77493, with completion expected in 2028. The new campus, funded through Bond 2023 Proposition A, will serve up to 1,400 students and span approximately 204,697 square feet in Waller County.

And for many residents, this isn’t just another building — it’s a signal that the district is planning ahead for the families who are choosing to call northwest Katy home.

Why This New Junior High Matters

Growth in the northwest quadrant of Katy ISD has continued year after year. New neighborhoods, new rooftops and new families have steadily increased enrollment at surrounding campuses.

District planning documents state that Junior High #19 is being constructed specifically to provide relief to existing junior high schools that currently serve students within nearby attendance boundaries. In practical terms, that means reducing overcrowding, balancing enrollment and preserving the quality of instruction as the area expands.

For parents of current elementary students, this project offers something important: predictability. A new campus helps stabilize feeder patterns and ensures that growth does not outpace classroom capacity.

For homeowners — even those without children enrolled in Katy ISD — school infrastructure plays a quiet but powerful role in neighborhood stability, property values and long-term community planning. When districts build ahead of growth, it reflects coordinated planning between residential development and public services.

A Bond 2023 Investment in the Community’s Future

Junior High #19 is part of the larger Bond 2023 program approved by voters, specifically under Proposition A’s new facilities package. The district lists the project’s estimated cost at approximately $72.5 million in bond planning documents, with overall construction estimates reaching $77.5 million. In total, new facilities under Bond 2023 total $296,841,365.

The anticipated construction timeline for Katy ISD Junior High #19 currently shows a June 21, 2026 start date, with completion projected between May and August of 2028.

This new junior high follows other Bond 2023 campus additions, including Alfred & Ann Boudny Elementary (Elementary #47) and James & Mitzi Cross Elementary (Elementary #48), both completed in 2025, as well as Elementary #49, which is currently under construction and scheduled to open in 2027.

Together, these projects represent a broader strategy: build capacity where rooftops are rising.

What Families Can Expect Next

While construction won’t begin until summer 2026, planning conversations around attendance boundaries and feeder patterns typically happen closer to a campus opening. Families living near Schlipf Road and throughout northwest Katy will want to stay attentive to future Katy ISD Board of Trustees meetings for updates.

In the meantime, the presence of this project on the district’s construction schedule provides reassurance that enrollment growth in 77493 and surrounding areas is being monitored and addressed.

In fast-growing communities, timing matters. Building too late leads to crowding. Building too early creates inefficiencies. Projects like Junior High #19 reflect long-range planning designed to strike that balance.

As northwest Katy continues to evolve, this new campus will eventually become more than a construction site — it will become part of the daily rhythm of families, students and educators in the area.

My Neighborhood News will continue to follow updates on Katy ISD Bond 2023 projects and other developments shaping the future of Katy.
