A newly completed roadway is giving drivers in a growing part of Williamson County a safer and more direct route to Ronald Reagan Boulevard.

Williamson County marked the completion of the CR 255 improvement project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 24, 2026. The $20.8 million project created approximately three miles of new two-lane roadway between CR 254 and CR 289.

Beyond adding another route to the county road network, the project was designed to correct several practical transportation concerns. According to Williamson County, the new alignment removes sharp turns, improves safety and provides additional capacity for an area preparing for continued growth.

A New Connection to Ronald Reagan Boulevard

One of the most significant changes is the new direct connection between CR 255 and Ronald Reagan Boulevard, a major north-south route serving Georgetown, Leander, Liberty Hill and other fast-growing Williamson County communities.

Previously, the configuration of local county roads made travel through this part of Precinct 3 less direct. The completed project creates a more straightforward route for residents, emergency responders, service providers and others traveling through the area.

“By creating a safer CR 255 and providing further connectivity to Ronald Reagan Boulevard, we continue to fulfil the goals we set in our Long-Range Transportation Plan,” Precinct 3 Commissioner Valerie Covey said. “This project addressed the needs of residents living in a growing area in Precinct 3. It’s exciting to see this project completed.”

Road Project Anticipates Future Growth

Williamson County’s population growth has placed increasing pressure on roads that were originally designed for much lighter traffic. Projects such as CR 255 are intended to address current safety concerns while creating a transportation network capable of supporting future homes, businesses and public services.

The county identified increased mobility for future capacity as one of the project’s central purposes. Although the new roadway has two lanes, its alignment and connections establish a more functional corridor as development continues around Ronald Reagan Boulevard and the surrounding county road system.

The improvements may also help distribute local traffic by giving drivers another option instead of concentrating trips on a smaller number of established routes.

How the CR 255 Project Was Funded

The CR 255 project was funded through Williamson County Road and Bridge funds. Seiler Lankes and Hejl Lee served as the project engineers, while Jordan Foster Construction LLC completed the construction work.

The county has not announced additional phases of CR 255 as part of the completion notice. Residents can follow current and planned transportation projects through the Williamson County website.

For drivers in western and northwestern Williamson County, the project delivers a tangible change: a safer three-mile roadway, fewer sharp turns and a new direct connection to one of the region’s most important transportation corridors.
