New American Airlines Admirals Club Lounge Planned for Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Featuring First-Ever Outdoor Terrace

March 11 2026

Travelers passing through Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) could soon experience a new level of comfort before takeoff. American Airlines has announced plans to build a new, expanded Admirals Club lounge at AUS, a project that will more than double the size of the airline’s current lounge while introducing a first-of-its-kind feature within its network — an outdoor terrace overlooking Austin.

For Central Texas residents and frequent travelers departing from Austin, the project reflects growing demand for premium airport amenities as the region’s travel and business activity continues to expand. The new lounge will occupy more than 12,000 square feet on the west side of the airport terminal, offering passengers additional space to relax, work, dine or recharge before their flights.

A First-of-Its-Kind Outdoor Terrace for the Admirals Club Network

The new Admirals Club lounge will include an open-air terrace — a first for American Airlines’ lounge network. The outdoor space will provide guests with views of both the Austin skyline and the airfield, offering a distinctly local travel experience designed to reflect the city’s character.

“As we elevate our presence in Austin, we’re excited to bring a new level of comfort and hospitality to our customers,” said American Airlines Chief Customer Officer Heather Garboden. “This new Admirals Club lounge will reflect the vibrant spirit of Austin while offering the thoughtful design and premium amenities our customers expect.”

Inside, the lounge will be designed with multiple dedicated zones to support a variety of traveler needs. Plans include quiet areas for relaxation, workspaces for business travelers, dining and beverage service areas, and charging stations to help passengers stay connected while waiting to board.

Construction is expected to begin later this year, with the current Admirals Club at AUS remaining open to customers during the buildout.

Investment Reflects Austin’s Growing Role in Air Travel

The expansion comes as American Airlines continues to strengthen its presence in Austin, a city that has seen rapid growth in population, business investment and tourism. The airline currently operates nearly 50 daily flights from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to 11 destinations, connecting Central Texas travelers to more than 350 destinations worldwide.

As Austin continues to grow as a major technology, business and cultural hub, airport infrastructure and traveler amenities have become an increasingly important part of supporting that growth. Upgraded airport lounges like the new Admirals Club are designed to serve both local residents and the rising number of business travelers moving through the city.

Passengers visiting the lounge will also experience some of American’s recently introduced partnerships aimed at enhancing the premium travel experience. These include Lavazza coffee offerings and Champagne Bollinger, which is available for purchase in Admirals Club lounges throughout the airline’s network.

A Century-Old Airline Continuing to Evolve

The new Austin lounge reflects a broader effort by American Airlines to modernize the customer experience across its global network. The airline traces its origins back to an air mail carrier established in the Midwest in 1926 and now operates more than 6,000 daily flights to more than 350 destinations in over 60 countries.

With a workforce of roughly 130,000 aviation professionals serving more than 200 million customers annually, American Airlines has played a major role in shaping the commercial aviation industry — including introducing the first airline loyalty program and the first airport lounge concept.

In 2026, the airline celebrates its centennial year, marking a century of growth and innovation while continuing to invest in airport facilities, onboard experiences and partnerships designed to meet evolving traveler expectations.

For Austin travelers, the upcoming Admirals Club lounge expansion signals another step in the airport’s ongoing evolution as Central Texas continues to grow as both a destination and a gateway to the world.
