Austin FC to Turn Austin Into a FIFA World Cup 2026 Watch Party Hub With 39 Days of Soccer Celebrations
As the FIFA World Cup 2026 prepares to bring the world’s attention to North America next summer, Austin FC is giving Central Texas soccer fans a place to experience every moment together — right in the heart of Austin.
The Club announced plans this week for the “Austin FC Soccer Celebration,” a citywide series of free public events, live match viewings, and fan-focused programming that will span the duration of the FIFA World Cup 2026 tournament. The initiative is designed to transform Austin into a gathering place for soccer supporters throughout the competition while reinforcing the city’s growing role in the sport’s expanding footprint across Texas.
For many Austinites, the announcement represents more than just watch parties. It reflects how deeply soccer culture has taken root in the city in recent years, especially since Austin FC joined Major League Soccer in 2021 as the league’s first top-division professional sports franchise in Austin.
Now, with the world’s biggest sporting event arriving in the region, Austin FC is aiming to create an experience that feels local, welcoming, and community-centered.
Austin FC to Host FIFA World Cup 2026 Opening Match Celebrations at Auditorium Shores
The celebration begins June 11 and 12 at Auditorium Shores, one of downtown Austin’s most recognizable public gathering spaces overlooking Lady Bird Lake.
Austin FC plans to transform the venue into a free fan destination featuring large-scale video screens broadcasting the tournament’s opening matches, including games featuring Mexico on June 11 and both Canada and the United States on June 12.
The space will also include food and beverage offerings, beer garden-style areas, and family-friendly activities designed to create a festival atmosphere for soccer fans of all ages.
For residents familiar with Austin’s growing sports scene, Auditorium Shores has increasingly become a gathering point for major soccer events. The venue previously hosted MLS All-Star Soccer Celebration activities during the 2025 MLS All-Star Game festivities in Austin.
East Austin Venue to Become 37-Day FIFA World Cup 2026 Soccer Hub
Beginning June 13, Austin FC will shift the celebration to Inn Cahoots in East Austin, where the Club plans to host daily programming and live watch parties for every remaining FIFA World Cup 2026 match through the Final on July 19.
The venue will effectively become a centralized soccer hub for the duration of the tournament, covering all 100 matches as national teams from around the world compete across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 is expected to be the largest tournament in FIFA history, expanding from 32 to 48 national teams and introducing a new format that significantly increases the number of matches and participating countries. Matches will be hosted throughout North America, with Texas playing a major role as both Houston and Dallas serve as official host cities.
While Austin itself is not a host city, the Club’s programming positions the city as an important regional destination for fans hoping to experience the atmosphere of the World Cup close to home.
Austin FC Partners With FOX 7 Austin for FIFA World Cup Coverage
Austin FC also announced a partnership with FOX 7 Austin (KTBC), the region’s FOX affiliate and official FIFA World Cup 2026 broadcaster, to create original tournament-related programming throughout the summer.
The coverage will include a magazine-style show hosted by FOX 7 sports anchor Dennis de la Peña and former Austin FC forward and U.S. Men’s National Team player Gyasi Zardes.
The program is expected to feature match analysis, storytelling, and behind-the-scenes perspectives intended to help local audiences connect more personally with the tournament and the global soccer community surrounding it.
Zardes remains one of the most recognizable American soccer players connected to Austin FC. During his MLS career, he became one of the league’s top scorers, ranking 10th all-time in Major League Soccer goals with 106. He played for Austin FC during the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
Austin FC President Andy Loughnane said the Club’s goal is to create a shared community experience throughout the tournament.
“This summer brings the world’s biggest sporting event to our region, and we’re proud to give Austinites the best environment to experience the most watched sporting event on the planet, every day, right here in our city,” Loughnane said. “From Auditorium Shores to East Austin and across the community, we’re creating spaces where fans can come together, connect, and watch every match of the tournament for 39 incredible days.”
What FIFA World Cup 2026 Means for Texas and Austin
The FIFA World Cup 2026 is expected to generate enormous tourism, hospitality, and economic activity throughout Texas as fans from around the globe travel to North America for the tournament.
For Austin businesses, restaurants, bars, hotels, and local event venues, regional spillover from nearby host cities could create increased visitor traffic and expanded opportunities during the summer tournament period.
The celebrations also continue Austin’s broader evolution into a nationally recognized soccer city.
Since Austin FC’s debut, the Club has helped elevate the visibility of soccer throughout Central Texas, drawing strong attendance at Q2 Stadium and fostering one of Major League Soccer’s most active fan cultures. The FIFA World Cup 2026 now presents another opportunity for Austin to showcase its community identity through the sport.
Additional event details, including registration information, schedules, and programming announcements, are expected to be released ahead of Austin FC’s May 16 home match against Sporting Kansas City as part of the Club’s “Celebration of the Global Game” presented by 4ATX Foundation.
For many local fans, the summer of 2026 will offer a chance to step out, join fellow supporters, and experience the excitement of the FIFA World Cup together in gathering spaces built to celebrate soccer, community, and Austin’s growing connection to the global game.
