The National Merit® Scholarship Program has released its list of semifinalists for the 2023-24 academic year, and 27 students from Spring Branch Independent School District (SBISD) have made the prestigious list. The district is proud to recognize these talented students for their exceptional academic achievements. Dr. Kristin Craft, Associate Superintendent for Academics, expressed her congratulations to the students and their teachers, acknowledging the dedication and perseverance that led to this remarkable accomplishment. “Our students continually persist through rigorous coursework, which leads to their exceptional academic records and prepares them for a wide array of post-secondary options. They accept challenges and excel on the national scene.”

The National Merit® Scholarship Program, administered by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, is an annual academic competition aimed at recognizing and awarding college undergraduate scholarships to outstanding students. Since its inception in 1955, the program has granted over 450,000 scholarships to more than 3.4 million students.

In addition to their accomplishments in the National Merit® Scholarship Program, SBISD students are also being recognized in the College Board National Recognition Programs. These programs grant academic honors to underrepresented students and facilitate connections with universities across the country. Students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher who achieve the required minimum scores on the PSAT/NMSQT®, are invited to apply for national recognition. View a complete list of student honorees here.

The SBISD Board of Trustees regular meeting on October 23 will acknowledge and honor these semifinalists and recognition program recipients. The district applauds and celebrates the achievements of these exceptional students.
