NASCAR Races Back to Austin in 2026 With New Challenges and Fan Favorites at COTA
NASCAR is revving back into Austin with full-throttle energy as Circuit of The Americas (COTA) prepares to host another landmark weekend of racing action from February 27 to March 1, 2026. This marks the sixth consecutive year that Austin will welcome NASCAR’s premier events, including the NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) and the NASCAR Xfinity Series, returning under the banner of the Focused Health 250.
“We’re thrilled to host two of NASCAR’s premier series at the world-class Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas once again,” said Bryan Hammond, Executive Director of NASCAR at COTA. “We’re excited to put more laps of thrilling racing in front of the fans this year as the stars of the sport wheel their way through the challenge of the new course layout. Our team is diligently working hard to put together one heck of a fun weekend featuring a jam-packed Fan Zone full of family activities, live performances, driver appearances and much more.”
New Year, New Course: The National Layout Returns
A major update this year is the use of the 17-turn, 2.4-mile National Course — a departure from the longer 3.41-mile, 20-turn Full Course used in the early years. Introduced in 2025, the National Course brings tighter corners, faster lap times, and a new kind of challenge for drivers and pit crews alike. Fans can expect more passes, higher intensity, and no shortage of high-speed drama.
The race weekend kicks off with practice and qualifying on Friday, February 27, followed by the Focused Health 250 NASCAR Xfinity Series race on Saturday, February 28, and capped off by the NASCAR Cup Series main event on Sunday, March 1. Full event details, including start times, are available at NASCARatCOTA.com.
A Look Back at NASCAR’s Legacy
While COTA has only been on the NASCAR calendar since 2021, the sport itself boasts a legacy that spans nearly eight decades. Founded in 1948, NASCAR began with modified stock cars on dirt tracks and grew into a national phenomenon. Today, the NASCAR Cup Series is the top level of stock car racing in North America, with elite drivers, cutting-edge technology, and loyal fans packing stadiums across the country.

Events like the COTA weekend showcase not only the top-tier racing talent but also NASCAR’s commitment to fan-first experiences.
More Than a Race: Fan Zone, Music & Family Fun
The NASCAR at COTA experience goes well beyond the checkered flag. Guests can explore the Fan Zone, a vibrant area filled with interactive exhibits, driver meet-and-greets, games for kids, merchandise, and mouth-watering food vendors. Live music is also a key highlight, with Austin’s own Spazmatics taking the stage ahead of Sunday’s big race.
This family-friendly weekend is designed for all ages. Kids 12 and under can attend the Focused Health 250 (Xfinity Series) for free, and tickets to the NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday are just $10 for children — making it one of the most accessible major sporting events in Central Texas.
