Moro Ojomo's Inspiring Journey from Katy to Super Bowl Champion with the Philadelphia Eagles

February 11 2025

Moro Ojomo, a proud Katy ISD alum and former Katy High School standout, has reached the pinnacle of professional football as a Super Bowl champion with the Philadelphia Eagles. His journey from Katy ISD stadiums to the NFL’s biggest stage is a living example of perseverance, determination, and hard work. From his early days as a backup player to becoming a key contributor on the Eagles’ defensive line, Ojomo’s path has been defined by resilience and an unwavering commitment to success.

A Journey of Resilience and Hard Work

Ojomo's story begins with his family’s move from Nigeria to the United States when he was just eight years old. After settling in Santa Clarita, California, his family faced a number of challenges, including the health struggles of his older sister, Omodele, who was diagnosed with leukemia. The family relocated to Katy, Texas, where Ojomo would later rise from being a backup player on his high school freshman football team to earning all-state honors as a defensive lineman.

Despite the odds, Ojomo found his footing. He spent his high school years working tirelessly to improve, investing countless hours into weight training and conditioning. His hard work paid off when he earned a spot on the varsity team and became one of the most highly-recruited defensive tackles in the state. After a standout senior year at Katy High School, Ojomo went on to play at the University of Texas, where he was named a two-time All-Big 12 honoree.

Rising Through the Ranks: From Texas to the NFL

Ojomo’s collegiate career at the University of Texas was marked by consistent improvement. Playing in all 50 games during his five-year career with the Longhorns, he registered 95 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, and 5.0 sacks. His senior year saw career highs in tackles (32), tackles for loss (5.5), and sacks (3.0). Despite the challenges he faced, including a shortened COVID-19 season, Ojomo earned second-team All-Big 12 honors and was invited to the 2023 NFL Combine.

In the 2023 NFL Draft, Ojomo was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the seventh round, 249th overall. As a rookie defensive tackle, Ojomo appeared in eight games during the 2023 season, totaling three tackles and one pressure, showcasing his potential as a key contributor on the Eagles’ defensive line.

Super Bowl Glory

Ojomo’s rookie season culminated in a monumental achievement: a Super Bowl victory with the Philadelphia Eagles. On February 9, 2025, the Eagles emerged victorious in Super Bowl LVIII, securing a 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs and solidifying their place once again in NFL history. As part of a dominant defensive unit, Ojomo contributed to a hard-fought win, making his presence known on the field in pivotal moments with two total tackles and a tackle for loss, helping to limit the Chiefs' offense. His performance on the league’s biggest stage added to the growing legacy of his football career.

The win is a testament to Ojomo’s relentless work ethic, from his early struggles as an underdog in high school to his rise through college football and, finally, his pivotal role in the Eagles' Super Bowl championship.

Looking Ahead: A Career Beyond Football

While Ojomo's future in football is bright, he is also preparing for a career beyond the gridiron. With his degree in business finance from the University of Texas, he has expressed interest in pursuing a career as a corporate lawyer or in private equity and venture capital after his time in the NFL.

Ojomo's story is a powerful reminder of the impact of perseverance, hard work, and family support. As the Philadelphia Eagles bask in the glory of their Super Bowl victory, Ojomo's journey—from a young boy facing adversity to an NFL champion—serves as an inspiration to athletes and fans alike.
