Mike McEachern Named New CFISD Athletic Director, Bringing Decades of Coaching and Leadership Experience

August 05 2025

Cy-Fair ISD has officially named Mike McEachern as its new athletic director, a decision announced Aug. 5 following the departure of Virginia Flores, who accepted a position as assistant athletic director with the University Interscholastic League (UIL) in July.

McEachern comes to CFISD with an impressive 33-year career in public education, including 19 years as an athletic director. His journey began in 1992 at Godley High School, where he served as an assistant coach before taking on head baseball coaching and assistant football coaching duties at Whitney High School from 1994 to 1998. He even stepped into the interim athletic director role at Whitney in 1997, laying the foundation for his future in athletic leadership.

From there, McEachern coached at Academy High School in Little River from 1998 to 2003, overseeing baseball and football programs before moving to Huffman-Hargrave High School, where he spent 16 years as athletic director and head football coach. His record of 104-69, along with 13 playoff appearances, reflects a career dedicated not just to winning but to building student-athletes and athletic programs from the ground up.

Most recently, McEachern served as athletic director at Pflugerville ISD before taking the same role at Humble ISD in 2024. In just one year with Humble ISD, programs under his direction made six state championship appearances, winning titles in cheer, girls’ basketball, baseball and softball.

McEachern’s credentials include a Bachelor of Science in Education from Texas Wesleyan University and a Master of Education Administration from Lamar University, giving him both the classroom and administrative perspective to lead one of the largest athletic programs in Texas.

“I’m extremely excited about this opportunity. Cy-Fair ISD is the pinnacle of districts to work in, and I hope to continue the success of the predecessors before me,” McEachern said. “I look forward to the opportunity to collaborate with district and campus administration, coaches and staff.”

As Cy-Fair ISD athletes and coaches prepare for the upcoming school year, McEachern’s appointment represents a continuation of strong athletic leadership for one of the state’s largest and most competitive school districts. His track record of building winning programs and fostering positive athletic cultures promises to strengthen CFISD’s legacy of excellence.
