Mercer Botanic Gardens March Programs

During the month of March, your nearby Mercer Botanic Gardens will be hosting many engaging, fun activities for all ages. Stop by Mercer Botanic Gardens to enjoy this peaceful oasis nestled in the hustle and bustle of Humble.

 

MUSIC IN THE GARDENS 

Wednesdays, March 1 and 15 @ 10:30 AM (Ages 2 – 5)

Children and parents experience rhythm and music principles in the gardens. Classes use Kindermusik curriculum, songs, instruments, and movement to inspire creativity, confidence, and music appreciation in children. Meet inside the Mercer Visitor Center. 

 

GARDEN CRUISIN’: TOUR DE 4 

Friday, March 3 and 17 @ 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM (Ages 60+ or 12 and older with mobility needs)

Board the Mercer cart under Mercer’s treehouse staff building for a one-hour leisurely tour through the gardens. The Tour de 4 uses an open-air cart, so participants should dress for the weather. There is a maximum of four passengers per tour and a waiver is required. 

 

TAI CHI 

Saturdays, March 4,11, and 18 @ 9:00 AM (Ages 12+)

Join volunteer John Spencer during this one-hour beginner Tai Chi class. Children younger than 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Consult your physician before starting any exercise program. Meet under Mercer’s treehouse staff building. Registration encouraged but not required. 

 

STORY TIME 

Mondays, March 6 and 20 @ 10:30 AM (Ages 2 – 5)

Children and parents enjoy garden time together while being introduced to books in a pre-school social group. Each unique themed session offers a complementary take-home craft. Meet inside the Mercer Visitor Center. Volunteer opportunities available. 

 

LUNCH & LEARN 

Wednesday, March 8 @ 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM (Ages 16+)

Expand your horizons by learning something new while meeting fellow garden enthusiasts. Each month offers a different guest specialist who will present on information and trends in gardening. Bring a lunch and meet inside the Mercer Visitor Center. March’s topic is “Introduction to Foraging: Know What Your Ancestors Knew” with Dr. Mark Vorderbruggen, Ph.D. 

 

VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION 

Monday, March 13 @ 4 p.m. – 5 p.m. (Ages 12+)

Do you want to give back to your community, need volunteer hours, learn more about gardening, or just love the outdoors and have an interest in expanding your knowledge of Gulf Coast flora? Mercer offers a variety of volunteer opportunities! Meet inside the Mercer Visitor Center. Participants must be 16 or older or 12-15 if accompanied by a parent or guardian. 

 

WOMEN’S RESTORATIVE HIKE 

Tuesday, March 14 @ 8:00 AM and 9:30 AM (Ages 18+)

This beginner-friendly, one-hour hike through Mercer’s gardens and forest is for those who believe in the restorative power that nature has on the mind, body, and spirit. For women 18 or older. Consult your physician before starting any exercise program. Meet in front of the Mercer Visitor Center. Wear closed-toe walking shoes and bring your own water bottle. 

 

BIRD SURVEY 

Thursday, March 23 @ 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM (Ages 12+)

Led by longtime birder Paul Gregg, this 2 mile survey loop goes through Mercer’s riparian forests and gardens. It is suited for birders of all levels. Meet in front of the Mercer’s Visitor Center. Bring binoculars, a bird identification guide, water, and insect repellent. 

 

MARCH MART PLANT SALE 

Friday, March 24 @ 8:00 AM– 10:00 AM (FMBG members only) | 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Saturday, March 25 @ 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (All Ages)

The biggest plant sale of the year is here! Freshen up your garden and landscape by shopping incredible and hard to find plant selections of trees, shrubs, shade plants, natives, edibles, herbs, houseplants, and seasonal color.
