Memorial Hermann Breaks Ground on $277.5 Million Expansion at Cypress Hospital

October 01 2025

As Cypress continues its transformation into one of the most sought-after suburban communities in the United States, Memorial Hermann Health System is deepening its roots with a monumental expansion at Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital. On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, hospital leaders and community members gathered to officially break ground on a $277.5 million campus expansion designed to meet the surging health care needs of Cypress, Waller, and surrounding areas.

At the heart of the project is the construction of a new six-story patient tower that will boost the hospital’s bed capacity from 149 to 201—with room to grow to 345 at full build-out. The expansion will dramatically enhance clinical services across emergency, inpatient, surgical, and specialty care, including a major boost for women’s services and rehabilitation.

“Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital is growing alongside our Northwest Houston community,” said Jerry Ashworth, senior vice president and CEO of both Memorial Hermann Cypress and Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital. “Expanding clinical services and specialties ensures families have access to high-quality care – from everyday needs to advanced treatment – close to home, now and for generations to come.”

Expansion Highlights

The Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital expansion includes:

  • A new six-story patient tower featuring 52 additional beds, including 12 for TIRR Memorial Hermann inpatient rehabilitation, a first for the Cypress campus.

  • A doubled Emergency Center, with 40 beds (up from 27), including 8 dedicated pediatric ER rooms and 4 trauma rooms.

  • Four new operating rooms, bringing the hospital’s total to 10.

  • Enhanced Women’s Services, including a dedicated OB emergency department, a C-section operating room, and expanded neonatal ICU with six additional NICU beds.

  • A new catheterization lab/neuro endovascular suite, expanding the hospital’s cardiovascular and neurological capabilities.

  • Upgrades to the pharmacy, lab, and sterile processing departments, as well as renovations to existing towers, the café, and dining areas.

  • An expanded parking garage to accommodate the growing patient volume.

  • Relocation of the Life Flight® helipad to the hospital rooftop for faster emergency response.

Originally announced in July 2024, the project is scheduled for completion in 2027.

A Pattern of Growth Across Cypress

This isn’t Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital’s first major expansion—it’s the third since opening just seven years ago. In recent years, the hospital has already added 62 inpatient beds, opened a second professional office building, expanded parking, and launched the Memorial Hermann Sports Park – Cypress, in partnership with Athlete Training and Health and affiliated orthopedic specialists.

The health system’s growth isn’t confined to the hospital campus. In Bridgeland, Memorial Hermann recently broke ground on a $12.4 million, 51,000-square-foot medical office building near Tuckerton and Fry Road, in partnership with Howard Hughes. The state-of-the-art facility, set to open in 2026, will offer primary care, pediatrics, sports medicine, and emergency services—all designed to serve the needs of the rapidly growing master-planned community of more than 25,000 current residents.

A Memorial Hermann GoHealth Urgent Care Center has also opened at Village Green at Bridgeland Central, joining a growing list of health care services integrated into the community’s mixed-use hub. The urgent care facility offers walk-in services 365 days a year with expanded access to diagnostic and primary care support, helping residents avoid unnecessary trips to major hospital campuses.

Health Infrastructure for a Thriving Suburb

Cypress continues to attract new families, businesses, and amenities, and the health care landscape is keeping pace. Memorial Hermann’s multilayered expansion—from inpatient towers to outpatient clinics and urgent care—is designed with long-term growth in mind. The developments reflect a shift toward localized, accessible, and comprehensive carethat meets patients where they live, rather than requiring long commutes to the Texas Medical Center.

The expansion also speaks to a broader trend across Cypress, where investment in schools, retail, transportation, and medical services continues to redefine the community’s suburban identity. With new H-E-Bs, corporate offices, mixed-use town centers, and now a robust medical network, Cypress is rapidly becoming a self-sustaining community model for the Houston region.

As Ashworth noted, “This expansion is more than a brick-and-mortar project. It will allow us to continue to add and enhance clinical specialties and programs to ensure our neighbors can access both routine and complex health care services close to home.”
