CFISD Bands Take the Field October 24 for UIL Region 27 Marching Contest at Berry Center in Cypress, Community Invited to Cheer Them On
For Cypress-area residents, Saturday offers a chance to see all 12 Cypress-Fairbanks ISD high school marching bands perform in one place, with a new season of UIL competition ahead of them.
The UIL Region 27 6A Marching Contest takes place Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Cy-Fair FCU Stadium at the Berry Center. The competition is open to the public, giving neighbors, alumni and families an opportunity to support local students beyond their own school’s football halftime show. CFISD also lists the stadium as the host site for the Area I contest on October 31.
This year’s regional contest follows several meaningful seasons for CFISD bands, including a district first on the national stage and recent appearances among Texas’ top marching ensembles.
Recent Seasons Have Given CFISD Plenty to Celebrate
In 2023, Bridgeland and Cy-Fair high schools advanced from preliminaries to the UIL Class 6A state Finals Round, placing 10th and 11th, respectively. CFISD described them as its first bands to qualify for a separate state Finals Round since 2006. The distinction accounts for the unusual 2020 contest, which did not have separate preliminary and finals rounds and awarded Cypress Woods a finalist designation for its 10th-place finish.
Bridgeland reached another milestone in November 2024, becoming the first CFISD marching band to earn a finalist spot at the Bands of America Grand National Championships. The Bears finished seventh overall at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis in a competition featuring approximately 113 bands from 19 states.
That achievement also connected two generations of district musicians. Bridgeland was only the second CFISD school to compete at Grand Nationals, following Cypress Falls’ appearance in 2006.
The success continued in 2025. Bridgeland won its third consecutive UIL Area I championship, and all 12 CFISD marching bands competed at area. Bridgeland, Cy-Fair, Cypress Woods and Langham Creek reached the area finals, with Bridgeland, Cy-Fair and Cypress Woods advancing to state together for the fourth consecutive year.
Cy-Fair went on to finish 12th at the 2025 UIL Class 6A State Marching Band Championships. That season also marked the sixth consecutive state appearance for both Bridgeland and Cypress Woods, while Cy-Fair made its ninth state appearance overall.
“Our band students always inspire me when they rise to a challenge,” Cy-Fair head band director John Nelson said in CFISD’s November 2025 recap.
Those results give Saturday’s audience some history to appreciate. They also offer younger musicians a chance to see where their own school band experience could lead.
