Medina Valley ISD Superintendent Dr. Scott Caloss Announces Retirement After 34 Years in Education

January 14 2026

Medina Valley Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Scott Caloss has officially announced his retirement, effective June 30, 2026, bringing to a close a remarkable 34-year career in public education. His retirement marks the end of a pivotal chapter for MVISD, one shaped by strategic planning, community-centered leadership, and a period of significant district growth.

In a heartfelt letter addressed to families and community members on January 13, Dr. Caloss reflected on his time in the district and the many educators and staff he’s worked with along the way. “It has been an honor to serve as Superintendent of Medina Valley Independent School District and to work alongside such hardworking, dedicated educators and staff members,” he wrote. “Together, we have faced challenges, celebrated successes, and continuously worked to improve opportunities for the students we serve.”

Dr. Caloss joined Medina Valley ISD in 2022 and quickly became a guiding force for the fast-growing district. Over the past several years, he helped steer MVISD through major milestones, including the passage of back-to-back voter-approved bond elections in 2023 and 2024 to support new school construction, infrastructure upgrades, and enhanced campus safety.

Under his leadership, the district celebrated the opening of Silos Elementary, broke ground on Creek View High School (set to open in Fall 2026), and began construction on Middle School #3, expected to open in Fall 2027. These projects reflect proactive planning efforts to accommodate MVISD’s rapidly increasing student enrollment and future needs.

In addition to overseeing capital growth, Dr. Caloss also championed initiatives to improve school safety and family engagement. His administration led the establishment of the district’s own Police Department, a move aimed at increasing campus security and responding more swiftly to local concerns. He also prioritized accessibility by launching bilingual hub campuses that support English language learners and strengthen school-family partnerships in the district’s increasingly diverse community.

His leadership has not gone unnoticed. In 2025, Medina Valley ISD was named a finalist for the prestigious H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards, a statewide recognition of the district’s innovative programs and instructional excellence.

Throughout his decades in education — from his early days as a teacher and coach to 14 years as a superintendent — Dr. Caloss has remained steadfast in his mission to ensure student success. He holds degrees from St. Mary’s University, Texas Woman’s University, and The University of Texas at Austin, and has led multiple Texas school districts with distinction.

“As I prepare to enter this next chapter of my life, I extend my sincere gratitude to the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, students, and the entire Medina Valley ISD community for your trust, support, and partnership,” he said. “I am proud to have served as an educator and will always cherish the relationships and memories built during my time in Medina Valley ISD.”

Outside of education, Dr. Caloss is a devoted family man. He and his wife, Adrian — a retired educator herself — have been married for 33 years. They have two children: Jacob, who works for Loftin Equipment Co., and Madison, a recent graduate of New York University with a degree in physical therapy.

Dr. Caloss concluded his letter by expressing confidence in the district’s future: “Thank you for your unwavering support throughout the years. I am confident the district is well positioned for continued growth and success, and I look forward to watching Medina Valley ISD thrive in the years ahead.”

As the district begins planning for its next leadership transition, community members are reflecting on the deep and lasting impact Dr. Caloss has had — not just on facilities and programs, but on the lives of students, educators, and families across the region.
