On August 9, 2024, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office South Patrol Crime Prevention Unit was presented with the Outstanding Crime Prevention Agency award at the annual Texas Crime Prevention Association (TCPA) state conference in Corpus Christi, TX. The TCPA is comprised of both civilians and law enforcement personnel experienced in crime prevention, community safety, neighborhood watch, loss prevention, security, and citizen’s police academies.
In the past two years, Specialists Carlos Tavarez, Ryan McCarty, and Brian Aguilar’s visionary approach has developed multiple successful programs such as an Amber Alert outreach program in partnership with McDonald's, an Autism Awareness program fostering a special relationship with autistic children, and the "Day with a Deputy" coloring/activity book to engage with children at events.
The Crime Prevention Unit is also the driving force behind more than 300 National Night Out events which has earned the Woodlands Township and the Unit numerous first-place awards over the years.
