This Thanksgiving break, families in Northwest Houston are invited to experience a bit of theatrical magic as Playhouse 1960 presents Disney’s Mary Poppins. The beloved musical opens on November 29 and runs through December 14, offering a heartwarming and entertaining way to celebrate the season with both local residents and visiting friends and relatives.

Located at 6814 Gant Road, Playhouse 1960 has been a community treasure for decades, providing local actors and theater lovers a welcoming space to celebrate the performing arts. Known for its commitment to family-friendly productions, the nonprofit community theater has become a go-to destination for live entertainment in the Cypress and Northwest Houston areas. Its intimate setting ensures every seat feels close to the stage—ideal for children and adults alike to fully immerse in the magic.

This season’s production of Mary Poppins brings to life the story of the practically perfect nanny who arrives at the London home of the Banks family to care for their spirited children, Jane and Michael. With unforgettable songs, whimsical adventures, and meaningful life lessons, Mary Poppins offers an uplifting reminder of the power of joy, imagination, and family unity.

The show’s holiday timing is ideal for those looking for local events over the Thanksgiving break. With performances on Friday, Nov. 29 at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 30 at 3 p.m., it’s a festive and affordable outing for all ages during a week when many are eager to step away from the house and into a storybook world.

Adding to the magic, Playhouse 1960 will host a special Tea Party with Mary Poppins and Santa Claus on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 3 p.m. Tickets for this delightful add-on experience range from $10–$15 and promise to enchant children and adults alike with personal visits and photo opportunities.
