For West Katy residents who have watched new neighborhoods, roads and commercial developments steadily push farther west along Interstate 10, one of the area's most anticipated retail openings is nearly here.

Lowe’s of West Katy is scheduled to open in early September at 981 Heritage Oak Lane in Texas Heritage Marketplace, adding a major home improvement destination for homeowners, do-it-yourselfers and professional contractors serving the growing Katy and Waller County area.

The roughly 95,000-square-foot Lowe’s store will include another 30,000 square feet of outdoor garden space, along with some of the retailer's newest store concepts — including an expanded kitchen showroom and one of the first redesigned Lowe’s tool departments in the country.

The Katy Area Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a grand opening ribbon cutting for Friday, Sept. 4, from 9 to 10 a.m., offering another indication that the long-awaited store is approaching its debut. 

For nearby residents, the opening means more than another national retailer arriving along I-10. It puts appliances, lumber, landscaping products, tools, renovation services and home improvement expertise closer to thousands of existing and planned homes west of Katy — an area where residential growth has been driving an equally significant wave of new shopping and dining development.

“Katy is growing fast and we’re excited to help support this community’s growth and be a resource for our neighbors for generations to come,” Store Manager Mike Spall said.

New Lowe’s Store Arrives as West Katy Continues to Grow

The West Katy Lowe’s will become one of the major anchors at Texas Heritage Marketplace, the large mixed-use development underway near Interstate 10 and Texas Heritage Parkway in Waller County.

NewQuest Properties describes Texas Heritage Marketplace as a 750,000-square-foot-plus regional retail and mixed-use destination, positioned several miles west of Katy's established retail concentrations and designed in part to serve communities including Cane Island, Cross Creek Ranch, Firethorne, Jordan Ranch, Lakehouse and Young Ranch. The completed Texas Heritage Parkway provides a 6.5-mile connection between I-10 and the Fulshear area. 

The broader development has continued adding major names since Lowe’s was first announced. Its anchor lineup now includes Lowe’s, Target, EoS Fitness and a membership-based wholesale club, with numerous additional retailers and restaurants planned throughout the project.

That represents a considerable change from July 2025, when the Lowe’s project was still largely a construction announcement.

At the time, My Neighborhood News reported that Lowe’s would join the roughly $400 million Texas Heritage Marketplace development as another major anchor. More than a year later, construction has given way to an opening that will put those plans directly into the daily lives of area residents.

For a homeowner tackling a weekend project, a family replacing an aging appliance or a contractor building one of the area's new homes, that can translate into fewer trips east toward Katy's more established shopping corridors.

Inside the New Lowe’s West Katy Kitchen Showroom

One of the biggest changes shoppers will notice is the store's redesigned kitchen showroom, a concept Lowe’s is making standard in new stores while introducing it selectively into existing locations during 2026.

Instead of simply lining up cabinets and appliances, the showroom is designed around complete projects.

Centralized desks will allow shoppers to discuss installation and service projects, while larger displays will present kitchen and appliance combinations across different price points. Interactive room displays will extend beyond traditional kitchens to bathrooms, wet bars, laundry rooms and mudrooms.

QR codes throughout the showroom will also connect shoppers with Lowe’s online planning tools, including a style quiz, budget calculator and 3D visualizer capable of producing a rendering of a proposed project.

For residents considering a kitchen remodel in Katy, the combination is intended to bridge the gap between browsing products online and standing in a physical showroom trying to envision how those products might look at home.

West Katy Among First Stores to Get Lowe’s Redesigned Tool Department

The new Lowe’s will also serve as an early test site for another significant change.

Lowe’s of West Katy will be among the first stores to debut the company's redesigned tool section, featuring wider aisles, lower fixtures and improved sight lines intended to make it easier to see across the department.

Products are being reorganized around related projects rather than simply being grouped into long traditional aisles. The store will carry major tool brands including DeWalt, Craftsman and Lowe’s-owned Kobalt.

That change may be especially noticeable for professional contractors and serious DIY customers who regularly move between several categories while gathering supplies for the same job.

Online Ordering, Paint Technology and AI Come Into the Store

The West Katy location will also reflect how much home improvement shopping has changed since the traditional big-box store model was developed.

Customers who purchase items online will have access to Buy Online, Pick Up In-Store zones with self-service lockers, while Lowe’s Paint Visualizer will allow shoppers to browse Sherwin-Williams colors digitally, see how shades could look in their own spaces and then match selections at the store's paint desk.

Lowe’s is also incorporating Mylow, its AI-powered home improvement assistant, which can answer project questions, make product recommendations and help customers begin purchases for delivery, curbside pickup or in-store pickup.

For residents who begin researching projects from their phones but still want to see materials or speak with someone in person, the West Katy store is being built around that increasingly blended shopping experience.

New Services Target Katy-Area Contractors and Homebuilders

West Katy's housing boom also means Lowe’s is opening in an area filled with construction activity.

The retailer is expanding several tools specifically for builders, remodelers and other professional customers.

AI-powered Material Lists can turn handwritten notes, photos, spreadsheets and other supported files into quote-ready orders. Blueprint Takeoffs allow professionals to produce material lists and estimates from project plans, while Lowe’s Pro Extended Aisle provides access to products and quantities beyond what can physically fit inside a store.

Participating suppliers can also deliver materials directly to jobsites.

Those services come as Texas Heritage Marketplace itself continues developing alongside expanding residential communities. NewQuest says the location was intentionally positioned to capture West Katy's continued growth. 

More Than 100 Jobs Coming With Lowe’s West Katy Opening

The store's impact will also be felt in the local job market.

Lowe’s of West Katy is hiring for more than 100 full- and part-time positions, ranging from customer service and sales roles to operational positions supporting the store.

The company says employees may have access to flexible scheduling, retirement programs, tuition-free education assistance and healthcare benefits.

Lowe’s employs approximately 300,000 associates companywide and operates more than 1,750 home improvement stores, along with hundreds of branches and distribution facilities. The Fortune 100 company reported more than $86 billion in fiscal 2025 sales, according to information provided by Lowe’s.

Families Will Find Monthly Kids Workshops and New Membership Benefits

Lowe’s is also trying to give families reasons to visit that extend beyond purchasing supplies.

Members of the free MyLowe’s Rewards program can register children for monthly Lowe’s Kids Club workshops, where kids and caregivers complete hands-on DIY projects together and can earn digital badges.

Rewards members can also earn points on eligible purchases and receive member offers and gifts.

Another option, called HomeCare+, provides participating rewards members with seven types of in-home maintenance services performed twice annually by local Lowe’s associates for $99 per year, according to the company.

Lowe’s Becomes Another Piece of the Texas Heritage Marketplace Puzzle

When Texas Heritage Marketplace was first announced, the project was envisioned as more than a collection of big-box stores.

A defining part of the development is its effort to incorporate gathering space into a regional shopping destination, including a preserved Heritage oak that was moved out of the path of Texas Heritage Parkway and incorporated into a central green space. NewQuest says the overall development is intended to create a more walkable environment alongside its large retail anchors. 

“After all these years of work, we couldn't be happier to kick off Texas Heritage Marketplace with a great anchor like Target,” NewQuest President and Chief Development Officer Austin Alvis said when the development was getting underway. “We are presently working with a variety of leading retailers and restaurateurs to procure the best possible mix for the project.”

As plans evolved, Lowe’s became part of that mix.

“This project has been a major collaboration with the City of Katy, Waller County, and Texas Heritage Parkway Association,” Alvis said. “We wanted to invest in preserving this Heritage oak and make the project a gathering space for the community.”

NewQuest has since announced an expanding collection of retail, dining and service tenants at the 165-acre project, reinforcing Texas Heritage Marketplace's emerging role as a regional shopping destination for residents west of Katy. Recent announcements have included additional restaurants and retailers like James Avery, Mattress Firm, and The Kebab Shop, alongside the development's major anchors.

What the Lowe’s Opening Means for West Katy Residents

For the families already living west of Katy — and the thousands more expected as surrounding communities continue building — the significance of Lowe’s opening is fairly practical.

A major category of shopping that once required traveling farther into Katy will be available closer to home. Contractors working on houses in the western growth corridor will gain another nearby source for materials. More than 100 people will have new local employment opportunities. And Texas Heritage Marketplace will take another step from construction site to functioning community destination.

The transformation will not happen all at once. Texas Heritage Marketplace remains under development, with retailers, restaurants and other components expected to open in stages. NewQuest currently describes the project as an active regional destination under construction. (Newquest)

But when Lowe’s opens its doors in September, one of the most visible pieces of that transformation will officially become part of everyday life in West Katy.
