LOVB Austin Goes Back-to-Back: Championship Run Highlights Growth of Pro Volleyball and Texas Talent

For volleyball fans across Texas—and especially those following the rise of professional women’s sports—LOVB Austin’s latest championship run is about more than a title. It’s a reflection of a program, a league, and a community continuing to build something lasting.

League One Volleyball (LOVB) Austin captured its second consecutive championship on April 18, defeating LOVB Salt Lake in a dramatic five-set match (25-20, 21-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-11) before sealing the title with a decisive golden set victory (15-8) in Long Beach, California. The back-to-back win positions Austin as an early powerhouse in one of the fastest-growing professional volleyball leagues in the United States.

“We are creating a legacy, we are really showing what Austin volleyball is … it is really cool in a new league that is this competitive to come out on top [two years in a row],” said outside hitter Logan Eggleston.

A Championship Defined by Resilience and Depth

The match itself reflected the competitive balance that has come to define League One Volleyball. After falling behind in the series, Austin responded with a complete team effort—one that showcased both elite talent and composure under pressure.

Key contributors included middle blocker Asjia O’Neal at the net, Eggleston’s steady offensive production, and clutch performances from Madisen Skinner. Salt Lake pushed the match to its limits, forcing a decisive fifth set and ultimately a winner-take-all golden set.

“We knew going into that fifth set that we had every opportunity to go out and win that game,” Eggleston said.

In the final moments, Austin delivered. After trading points early, the team surged ahead in the golden set, maintaining control before closing out the championship with a powerful finish.

Star Power With Texas Roots Fuels Success

Part of what makes LOVB Austin’s success resonate locally—and nationally—is the makeup of its roster. The team blends international experience with deep Texas ties, particularly through the University of Texas pipeline.

LOVB Austin’s roster includes Olympians, national team athletes, and NCAA champions, with multiple players who helped lead Texas to collegiate titles. The team features 11 NCAA Division I championships collectively and 12 athletes with national team experience, underscoring the high level of competition within the roster .

Madisen Skinner, a Katy native and three-time NCAA champion, continues to be a cornerstone of that success. She earned LOVB Championship MVP honors for the second consecutive year, contributing 21 points in the deciding match and delivering key plays in both the fifth and golden sets.

“I think a lot of us are also chasing more than championships, we’re chasing connection and personal growth. We want to win, but with this group, that wasn’t the end goal. It was about how much we can grow as individuals and how much we can push ourselves to be the best versions of ourselves,” said Skinner.

Skinner’s journey—from high school standout in the Houston area to national champion at Texas and now professional MVP—mirrors the pathway LOVB is working to build for young athletes across the country.

Building a League—and a Pipeline—for the Future

LOVB’s model is unique in American sports, connecting youth volleyball clubs directly to the professional level. With more than 24,000 athletes across 29 states in its club system, the league is designed to create long-term opportunities for players while growing the sport’s visibility nationwide .

Austin has become a central hub in that ecosystem. The team’s strong local ties—combined with national and international talent—have helped create a fan base that reflects both community pride and growing interest in professional volleyball.

Players like Molly McCage (Spring, Texas), Asjia O’Neal (Southlake), and Eggleston—alongside national and international standouts—illustrate how the roster blends hometown connections with global experience.

Why This Win Matters Beyond the Court

LOVB Austin’s back-to-back championships signal more than early dominance—they highlight the rapid rise of professional volleyball in the U.S. and the role Texas continues to play in shaping that growth.

The league has already seen sold-out matches, national broadcasts on networks like ESPN and USA Network, and millions of digital viewers. As the sport expands, Austin’s success helps set the standard for what a sustainable, community-connected professional team can look like.

For young athletes in Texas—many of whom are already part of the LOVB club system—the message is clear: there is now a defined path from youth volleyball to the professional stage.

What Comes Next for LOVB Austin and League One Volleyball

With two championships in as many seasons, LOVB Austin now enters the next phase of its evolution—defending its title while continuing to grow the sport’s footprint.

League One Volleyball is expanding its schedule, increasing national exposure, and refining its postseason format, all aimed at strengthening the league’s long-term presence in the U.S.

For Austin, the focus remains the same: building on a foundation that combines elite competition, player development, and community connection.

As Eggleston put it, this is about more than a single season—it’s about setting a tone for the future.
