Lone Star College-CyFair Revives The Revolutionists: A Bold Comedy Celebrating Resilience and Female Empowerment

September 23 2024

Back by popular demand, Lone Star College-CyFair’s Drama Department is thrilled to announce the return of their season opener, "The Revolutionists." Originally staged during spring 2021 amidst the pandemic, this remarkable comedy featuring four determined women challenging the status quo is set to grace the stage once again.

"The Revolutionists," penned by Lauren Gunderson, takes the audience back to 1973 Paris. The all-female quartet comprises real historical figures who dared to challenge the existing social order during the Reign of Terror. They include Playwright Olympe de Gouges, the assassin Charlotte Corday, Marie Antoinette, the former queen and lover of ribbons, as well as Haitian revolutionary Marianne Angelle. These women, known for their tenacity, bravery, and non-conformity, are set to stir the audience with their adventurous spirit as they set out to change their world.

Remembering the initial run in 2021, Joshua Estrada, the Fine Arts Coordinator at LSC-CyFair, expressed his anticipation for the upcoming performances. "We originally staged 'The Revolutionists' in the Spring of 2021. Our objective at the time was to continue the momentum of the drama program but with restrictions, we lacked a live audience - which was a shame because it is an amazing girl-powered comedy,” he said. “I could not be happier to finally give this piece the audience it deserves! This production is not only a symbol of the resilience of LSC-CyFair but is also a proclamation of our growing fine arts program."

"The Revolutionists" is set to go live from Oct. 10 – Oct. 19, with shows at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in the Main Stage Theatre. Additional 2:30 p.m. Saturday matinees have also been scheduled. The play is presented in special arrangement with the Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York, and is recommended for mature audiences due to strong language and sexual dialogue.
