Lone Star College-CyFair Art Show and New Interactive Media Course Bring Cypress Creativity to Life This Spring

In Cypress, the creative energy of local students is stepping out of the classroom and into the community—inviting residents to not just observe art, but experience it.

This spring, Lone Star College-CyFair (LSC-CyFair) is opening its doors for a series of public-facing art experiences, including a highly anticipated student art exhibition, a wearable art fashion show, and the launch of a new Interactive Media Design course. Together, these initiatives reflect a growing investment in hands-on learning, creative exploration, and community connection through the arts in Northwest Houston.

For families, students, and local art supporters, it’s more than a showcase—it’s a chance to see how Cypress-area talent is developing, evolving, and preparing for careers that extend far beyond campus.

Student Art Exhibition and Wearable Art Show Take Center Stage in Cypress

The LSC-CyFair student art exhibition, running April 23 through May 8 in the Bosque Gallery, offers a window into the work being created right here in the community. The semi-annual showcase features award-winning student pieces across a range of mediums, including painting, drawing, photography, color theory, and both two- and three-dimensional design.

Visitors don’t just walk through the gallery—they have the opportunity to purchase original artwork, directly supporting student artists as they begin to build their portfolios and professional presence.

The experience begins with an opening reception and awards ceremony on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., where attendees will also see one of the event’s most distinctive highlights: a wearable art fashion show. Designed and created by students, these one-of-a-kind pieces transform fashion into storytelling, blending creativity with craftsmanship in ways that often leave a lasting impression.

Behind the Scenes: Students Learning the Art of Curation

While the finished pieces draw attention, much of the learning happens behind the scenes.

Students like Max Manning are part of a volunteer installation team that helps bring the Bosque Gallery exhibitions to life. Working alongside Bosque Gallery Coordinator Heather Braman, students gain hands-on experience in curating and installing a professional gallery—skills that are rarely accessible at the undergraduate level.

“My vision was to provide students an opportunity to learn how to install and curate artwork in a professional space with the hope that they will have the skills to move from studio work to showing their own pieces in galleries,” said Braman.

For Manning, that experience has been transformative.

“Heather does an amazing job explaining how everything should be laid out and teaching us the required techniques for hanging and labeling,” Manning said. “Setting up the gallery personally helped me really appreciate every step of the show process and allowed me to know what to expect when setting up my own art shows in the future.”

Manning’s journey reflects a broader trend at LSC-CyFair, where students are not only creating art but also learning how to present it, manage it, and share it with an audience.

“I love that art doesn't have to make sense, is a form of expression and can also tell a story,” Manning said. “LSC-CyFair’s Art Department has an amazing staff who cares. Professors allow you to express yourself however you'd like, as long as it follows the assignment regulations.”

A New Interactive Media Design Course Expands Creative Opportunities

Looking ahead to summer, LSC-CyFair is expanding its offerings with a new Interactive Media Design course beginning June 8. The ARTS 2348 Digital Media Special Topic course will give students the opportunity to collaborate on immersive, interactive art installations—similar to the experiential exhibits seen at destinations like Meow Wolf, Seismique, and ARTECHOUSE.

The course is designed to push beyond traditional formats, encouraging students to combine technology, storytelling, and design to create environments that audiences can move through and engage with.

For Cypress-area students interested in digital art, interactive design, or creative technology, this course signals a shift toward the kinds of experiences increasingly shaping the future of art and entertainment.

Why It Matters for the Cypress Community

Events like the LSC-CyFair student art exhibition and wearable art show do more than fill a gallery—they strengthen the connection between the college and the surrounding community.

For residents, it’s an opportunity to support local artists, discover emerging talent, and engage with creative work that reflects the perspectives of the area’s students. For families, it offers a glimpse into educational pathways that combine creativity with real-world skills. And for the students themselves, it’s a chance to be seen, supported, and inspired.

As Cypress and Northwest Houston continue to grow, spaces like the Bosque Gallery—and programs like the new Interactive Media Design course—help ensure that creativity remains part of the community’s identity.
