Local Step Organization Performs at CFISD Superintendent's Fun Run
On April 1, near 8,000 CFISD staff, students, community members and business partners came together at the Berry Center for the 10th annual CFISD Superintendent's Fun Run. Among the attendees were various performing groups from the district and the greater community, including participants from a unique Houston-based organization known as Order My Steps.
Order My Steps is a 501(c)3 youth development nonprofit organization designed for students in grades 3-12 to inspire, empower, and motivate them through the art of stepping. Through the teachings of step, Order My Steps also invests in the development of their student participants that expands outside the art. Order My Steps aims to help students improve their self-confidence and self-determination with two different programs to schools, which includes the Empowerment Summit, a 5-hour Saturday event where students rotate through different classes, and the Growth Program, which is a 12-week program that focuses on character building and socio-emotional learning.
As an organization whose mission aligns with that of CFISD, Order My Steps has been invited by the district to perform at this annual Fun Run for several years. This year, Order My Steps brought together teams from different CFISD schools and their community step team, which is comprised of kids from all over Houston. This unique performance represented the different values that Order My Steps teaches to their students, including self-confidence, respect, honesty and positive affirmations.
During the Fun Run, Order My Steps hosted a booth, providing an opportunity to talk to more parents and representatives from different CFISD schools. So that they can make a positive impact on more students, Order My Steps is working to implement their program in the majority of CFISD elementary and middle schools.
