Water Wings Swim School Brings Year-Round Swim Lessons to Cypress With Sept. 5 Grand Opening
For Cypress parents, swimming is often about much more than finding another activity to fill the calendar. In a community where backyard pools, neighborhood swim centers and long Texas summers are part of everyday life, knowing how to move safely and confidently in the water can be an important life skill.
Beginning this September, local families will have a new place to work on those skills.
Water Wings Swim School Cypress is opening at 22314 FM 529, Suite 200 near Target, Burlington, EOS Fitness, and the upcoming H-E-B in Elyson, with a grand opening celebration planned for Saturday, Sept. 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The locally owned school will offer year-round swim lessons for ages ranging from infants to adults, along with programs for beginners, developing swimmers and those interested in more advanced training.
For owners Arun and Kay Singh, the Cypress location also represents another chapter in a business portfolio built largely around children and families.
“As parents and as entrepreneurs, Kay and I have spent the better part of two decades building businesses that make a real difference in children's lives,” Arun Singh said. “Water Wings represents the perfect fusion of everything we believe in — high-quality instruction, genuine care for every family we serve, and the belief that learning to swim is one of the greatest gifts we can give a child. We're excited to bring that experience to Cypress and help families build confidence in and around the water for years to come.”
A New Swim School With Local Owners Behind It
Although Water Wings is a national brand, its Cypress location will be operated locally by the Singhs.
The couple brings experience across finance, technology, early childhood education and multi-unit business ownership. According to information released ahead of the opening, they entered the child-focused business world more than 16 years ago with their first preschool and have since built a portfolio that includes two preschools, several health and wellness businesses in the Houston area and two Urban Air Adventure Parks in Louisiana.
Urban Air and Water Wings are both part of Unleashed Brands, a youth enrichment platform whose portfolio also includes The Little Gym, Sylvan Learning, Snapology, Premier Martial Arts and Class 101.
The Singhs also plan to develop additional Water Wings locations across the Greater Houston area, making the Cypress school an early piece of their expansion with the brand.
What Is Water Wings Swim School?
Water Wings dates back to 2003, when Avi and Tracy Shafshak founded the swim school concept. The company was built around year-round swimming instruction for children and adults, with programs ranging from introductory lessons to swim teams, camps and clinics.
Unleashed Brands acquired Water Wings in January 2025 as it expanded into the swim instruction category and later began developing the company as a franchise system. Water Wings became part of a broader platform focused on children's education, recreation and skill development.
Today, Water Wings describes its approach as combining water safety instruction with an environment intended to help swimmers become comfortable and confident in the pool. Its programming includes parent-and-child instruction, learn-to-swim progression, stroke development, competitive swim preparation, adult lessons and private instruction.
That range is part of what the Cypress school hopes will make it useful to families at different stages — from parents introducing a baby to the water to older children preparing for swim teams or adults who never learned to swim.
Small Classes and Lessons Built Around Progress
At the Cypress location, group classes are expected to average about a 4-to-1 student-to-instructor ratio, giving instructors an opportunity to provide more individualized attention while still keeping students in a social lesson environment.
Water Wings says its instructors are trained in water safety, CPR and first aid, while lessons follow a structured progression intended to help swimmers move from basic comfort in the water toward greater independence.
The brand's broader philosophy is fairly straightforward: children tend to learn more effectively when they are comfortable enough to enjoy being in the water. Water Wings describes fun as an important part of its year-round teaching model rather than treating swim instruction only as a technical exercise.
For families searching for swim lessons in Cypress, the school will offer several options, including Parent & Me classes, group and private lessons, seasonal camps, competitive training, birthday parties, special events and other aquatic programming.
Classes are expected to be available during morning, afternoon and evening hours, giving families some flexibility around school, work and other activities.
Cypress Grand Opening Includes a Sept. 5 “Splash Bash”
Before regular lessons settle into their routine, Water Wings Cypress is inviting families to see the facility during its Splash Bash grand opening on Saturday, Sept. 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event is expected to include facility tours, opportunities to meet instructors, family activities, refreshments, giveaways and information about classes and enrollment.
For parents who are not yet sure whether Water Wings is the right fit for their child, the school also plans to offer free preview classes during the week following the event.
The grand opening may be particularly useful for families with children who are hesitant around water, since parents can meet the staff and get a feel for the school before committing to a regular lesson schedule.
Founding Member Discount Available for Cypress Families
Water Wings Cypress is also offering a founding member promotion tied to the opening.
Families enrolling with the code WWCYPFM50 can receive 50% off the first month, no membership fee, priority enrollment and early access to class schedules, according to the school's opening announcement.
As with any promotional offer, families may want to confirm availability and current terms directly with the Cypress location when enrolling.
Why Year-Round Swim Lessons May Appeal to Cypress Families
In the Houston area, water activities are not limited to a brief summer season. Community pools, swim teams, backyard pools, splash pads and warm weather keep many families around water for a significant portion of the year.
That makes year-round swim instruction an option for parents who want children to continue practicing skills after summer ends rather than starting over each spring.
Water Wings' model is built around that year-round approach, with programs that move swimmers through progressive skill levels instead of treating lessons solely as seasonal recreation.
For some families, the goal may be learning basic water safety. For others, it may be helping a cautious child become comfortable putting their face in the water, improving strokes or preparing for competitive swimming. The Cypress school is designed to serve those different starting points under one roof.
