Local Fine Arts Museum Brings a Harvest of Events for All Ages This Fall
This fall is filled with special events at the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts, including a Day of the Dead celebration, outdoor Art Market, historical pop-up event, art classes and more!
Located at 6815 Cypresswood Drive in Spring, the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts is the only Fine Arts museum in Harris County outside the city center of Houston, and is free to all. If you haven't been to the Pearl, fall is the perfect time to get acquainted with this local gem.
Along with the Pearl's upcoming special events, don’t miss their fall exhibitions: Ode to East Texas: The Art of Lee Jamison in the Main Gallery and José Cisneros: A Colorful World in Black and White in the Cole Gallery. At the Pearl, there's something for everyone of all ages.

The Pearl’s third annual Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration will take place on Saturday, October 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the museum.
This family-friendly event will include a public ofrenda, performances by Ballet Folklorico and Aztec Dance, story time, face painting and more. Art stations will allow guests to create traditional art such as sugar skull masks, Marigold paper sculptures, and monarch butterfly crafts.
As part of the event, an outdoor Art Market will offer items for sale by local artists.
Guests are encouraged to dress in traditional costumes and bring art, photos, or other items of loved ones to add to the public ofrenda.
Peek Into the Past: Saturday, November 18
Mark your calendars for a historical pop-up event, “Peek Into the Past,” on Saturday, November 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pearl.
All ages are invited to explore our area’s past with interactive booths hosted by the Sam Houston Heritage Society, Spring Historical Museum, San Jacinto Museum, Southern Apache Museum, American Indian Center of Houston, The American Indian Genocide Museum and more.
A pioneer trunk show will take place at 11 a.m., followed by the Apache Creation Story and Flute Performance at noon. Free historical crafts and presentations will be offered throughout the event.

This fall, the Pearl is proud to present “Ode to East Texas: The Art of Lee Jamison,” in the Main Gallery, along with “José Cisneros: A Colorful World in Black and White,” in the Cole Gallery. Both exhibitions continue through January 6, 2024.
Lee Jamison spent more than a year traveling the tree-lined passages of East Texas, observing, sketching, and journaling along the way. The result is a rich record of the land, lore and culture of East Texas as viewed through the eyes of an accomplished painter.
Jamison’s paintings are a sensory expedition, inviting guests to wander along sun-dappled trails, inhale the earthy scent of pine, and feel the rhythm of life that beats within the heart of East Texas.
From the Bryan Museum in Galveston, the Pearl’s Cole Gallery features José Cisneros: A Colorful World in Black and White. Cisneros was born in Mexico in 1910, but his family lost their home during the Mexican Revolution. He moved to the United States when he was 15, and his lifetime passion for illustrating history left an indelible mark, winning him many awards.
With a focus on the rugged and iconic horsemen of Texas, Cisneros transports us to a bygone era where the wild frontier was tamed by the fearless and skilled riders of the West. Through his intricate artwork, you can almost hear the thundering hooves, feel the dust of the trail, and sense the untamed spirit of the land.
Both exhibitions continue through January 6, 2024. Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and admission is free. For more information visit pearlmfa.org.

Registration is open for a four-week mini-session of classes at the Pearl Fincher Museum’s School of Art, beginning November 6.
Classes are available for children as well as adults, and feature subjects such as autumn themes, ceramics, watercolor, and drawing. Classes specifically for homeschool students are also available.
A workshop for adults will be offered on Saturday afternoon, November 4. Participants will learn techniques to paint a beautiful still life of apples, learning about color mixing, compositional choices, proportion and depth along the way. The class is open to all skill levels and materials are provided.

Volunteer docents are needed to provide guided tours for guests of all ages. Docents should have an interest in art and be available during the day. Training is provided for each new exhibition, and docents enjoy camaraderie and fun as they share their love of art with others.
Holiday Concert: Sunday, December 10
“Celebrate the Season” with Steinway Artist Don Irwin will take place Sunday, December 10, 2023 in the Main Gallery of the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts. Guests will enjoy holiday favorites as they are surrounded by beautiful paintings from the museum’s fall exhibition, Ode to East Texas: The Art of Lee Jamison.
A classically trained musician, Don Irwin enjoys performing everything from Chopin to the Beatles, and Scott Joplin to Dave Brubeck. Because of his versatility, Don has worked with artists including Willie Nelson, Donna Summer, and Prince, as well as performing with pops orchestras throughout the country.

Winter Break Art Camp: December 18-22
Kids can get into the holiday spirit at Winter Break Art Camp hosted by the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts. Camp takes place Monday through Friday, December 18 through 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for ages 5 to 7, and from 1 to 4 p.m. for ages 8 to 12.
