Living Legacy Center Launches Operation Wipe Out: Bridging the Sanitation Gap for Vulnerable Families in Cypress

August 14 2024

As community grassroots movements take the lead in supporting those in need, The Living Legacy Center (LLC) in Cypress is launching its semi-annual "Operation Wipe Out." The initiative centers on collecting toilet paper, an essential sanitation product often overlooked by support services, with the goal of distributing it to Cypress's most vulnerable citizens.

While the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provided necessary aid to over 621,744 eligible individuals in Harris County as of July 2024, there remain gaps in the resources available. SNAP's primary focus is on providing access to nutritional food, ranging from fruits and vegetables to meat, poultry, and fish, even down to breads, cereals, and seeds for growing food. Unfortunately, SNAP does not cover hygiene and paper products, leaving a significant void for those in need.

The LLC steps up to bridge this gap, specifically in the area of toilet paper provision. "The need is so significant that we might need to turn this into a quarterly promotion," said Tammy Easley, Community Events Director for The Living Legacy Center. Last month, the majority of SNAP beneficiaries in Harris County were children between the ages of 5 and 17, representing 36.5% of the eligible individuals.

Founded on the principles of community and compassion, LLC has been a beacon of hope in the Cypress-Fairbanks area, serving many families from underserved communities. The organization connects families with legal and social services they require and represents the interests of senior citizens, veterans, and individuals with both physical and intellectual disabilities, as well as their families.

The LLC invites community members to be part of this important initiative. Next time you're shopping at the grocery store or bulk retailers like Sam's Club or Costco, consider purchasing an extra pack of toilet paper to donate to "Operation Wipe Out." With this small act, you can become an integral part of the community's solution to this pressing social challenge.

In the event of receiving more donations than needed, LLC plans to extend its giving to Camp Hope, allowing your contribution to have an even wider impact. For more information on how to donate, please reach out to Tammy Lynn Easley at The Living Legacy Center at info@livinglegacycenter.com. Together, we can "Wipe Out" this issue and provide comfort to those who need it most.
