Learn to Save a Life: Harris County ESD 48 Hosts CPR/AED Class for Katy Residents
Harris County Emergency Services District No. 48 (HCESD 48), the local fire department serving Katy-area communities like Green Trails Estates, is opening its doors to the public for a vital health and safety training session on Friday, July 19, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The department will host the American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver CPR/AED Adult, Child and Infant Class at its station located at 21201 Morton Rd, Katy, TX 77449.
For just $30, Green Trails Estates residents can receive hands-on training designed for the everyday layperson—no prior medical experience needed. The course includes step-by-step instruction on how to perform CPR and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on adults, children, and infants.
“We’re excited to offer this opportunity to empower our community,” said Natasha Moreno, Fire and Life Safety Educator for HCESD 48. “This class isn’t just about certification—it’s about confidence. You never know when you might be the person in the room who can make the difference.”
Why CPR and AED Training Matters in Katy
CPR and AED training has been shown to drastically increase survival rates during sudden cardiac emergencies. According to the American Heart Association, immediate CPR can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival if performed in the first few minutes after cardiac arrest. Yet, 70% of Americans feel helpless in such situations because they either do not know how to administer CPR or their training has significantly lapsed.
The AHA Heartsaver course offered by HCESD 48 provides essential instruction for recognizing cardiac arrest, performing high-quality chest compressions, delivering rescue breaths, and using an AED—all in an encouraging and interactive learning environment.

The fire department’s outreach reflects a growing focus on community-based emergency readiness across the Greater Katy area, where population growth and high traffic volumes can delay emergency medical response times. Courses like these give residents a critical window of time to act effectively before first responders arrive.
How to Register
Participants must register in advance through the event page at Eventbrite. The $30 fee covers instruction, certification, and materials. The class is designed specifically for the layperson—not for medical professionals—making it ideal for parents, teachers, babysitters, fitness instructors, and concerned neighbors.
HCESD 48 encourages residents of Katy, including neighborhoods such as Green Trails Estates, to take advantage of this practical, potentially life-saving opportunity.
