Lamar CISD Welcomes New Huggins Elementary Principal, Shares Back-to-School Transportation Tips and Student Device Policy Update

July 28 2025

Families across Fulshear are preparing for the 2025–2026 school year with several important announcements from Lamar Consolidated ISD (Lamar CISD) that directly impact students and parents. These updates include new leadership at Huggins Elementary School, essential transportation reminders for back-to-school, and a statewide change regarding student use of personal communication devices on campus.

New Leadership at Huggins Elementary School

Lamar CISD has appointed Jennifer Brewer as the new principal of Huggins Elementary School, bringing two decades of experience and a deep connection to the campus. Brewer has served in Lamar CISD for 22 years, including roles as a teacher, instructional coach, and most recently as assistant principal at Huggins Elementary.

Brewer holds a bachelor’s degree from Texas State University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Houston–Victoria. She says her focus remains centered on students and their success as she steps into this new role.

Transportation Reminders for Families

To ensure a smooth start to the school year, Lamar CISD reminds parents and guardians to complete the student transportation form. This information allows the district to finalize bus routes and transportation logistics ahead of the first day of school on Monday, August 11, 2025.

Parents are encouraged to pay attention to key deadlines:

  • Submitted by August 3 – Bus transportation begins the first day of school (August 11).
  • Submitted between August 4–22 – Bus service begins Monday, August 25.
  • Submitted after August 23 – Bus service begins after five school days.

All students, including those who do not ride the bus, must have a transportation form on file. For more details, visit lcisd.org/transportation

Student Device Policy Changes for 2025–2026

A new Texas law, House Bill 1481, prohibits the use of personal communication devices such as cell phones, smartwatches, and tablets during the school day and on school property. Beginning this school year, Lamar CISD will implement these changes across all grade levels (PK–12).

Students must power down devices before entering campus and store them in backpacks or lockers throughout the day. Visible possession or use of personal devices will result in confiscation and disciplinary action. Exceptions are made only for documented medical needs or special education accommodations.

Dismissal times will remain unchanged:
  • Elementary A – 2:40 PM
  • Elementary B – 3:10 PM
  • Middle School/Junior High – 4:30 PM
  • High School – 3:50 PM

Parents needing to reach their child during the school day should call the campus front office directly, as calls or texts to students will not be permitted. Families are encouraged to stay informed and plan ahead as the district prepares for an exciting start to the 2025–2026 school year.
