Lakewood Lightning Crawfish Boil Returns June 6, Bringing Neighbors Together to Support Local Swimmers

June 03 2026

For many Lakewood Forest North families, summer isn't just a season—it's swim team season.

On Saturday, June 6, neighbors, friends, and supporters from across the area will gather at the Lakewood Residents Club for the Lakewood Lightning Swim Team Crawfish Boil Fundraiser, an event designed to raise funds for the team while celebrating the community connections that have helped make the program a fixture in Lakewood Forest for generations.

The event will take place from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Lakewood Residents Club, 15006 Lakewood Forest Drive, Houston, TX 77070, with food served from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Organizers say the evening will feature crawfish, open swimming, a silent auction, raffle opportunities, and family-friendly activities. Guests are also encouraged to bring a side dish or dessert to share.

More than a fundraiser, the event serves as a reminder of the role the Lakewood Residents Club and the Lakewood Lightning Swim Team continue to play in fostering neighborhood connections and creating lasting memories for local families.

Supporting a Longstanding Lakewood Forest Tradition

The Lakewood Lightning Swim Team operates each summer from early May through the end of June and welcomes swimmers ages 5 through 18 who are members of the Lakewood Residents Club.

Competing in the Northwest Aquatic League, the team provides young athletes with opportunities to develop swimming skills while learning lessons that extend well beyond the pool deck. Coaches focus on stroke development, dives, turns, endurance, sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth in a supportive environment.

Each Saturday during the season, swimmers compete against other area teams, building confidence and friendships that often last long after the final race of the summer.

For many families, the program becomes a cornerstone of childhood memories and neighborhood life.

More Than a Swim Team

According to Lakewood Lightning President John Griffin, the team's volunteers have spent recent years investing significant time and effort into enhancing the Lakewood Residents Club experience for members and visitors alike.

Volunteer projects have included refreshing outdoor furniture, improving fencing, power washing facilities, and making upgrades around the pool area to create a welcoming space for families.

Griffin says those efforts reflect the broader mission of the club.

"Do you recall those carefree summers of riding bikes, playing with friends, and basking in the sun?" Griffin wrote in a message to residents. "Remember having neighborhood pals, forming a tight-knit group where neighbors felt like family?"

He believes the Lakewood Residents Club continues to offer that experience in an era when many neighborhoods struggle to maintain the same level of community engagement.

"We've cultivated an incredible environment where families can reconnect, create lasting memories, and provide a place for kids to simply be kids," Griffin said.

That sense of belonging is one reason many residents continue to support the swim team's fundraising efforts year after year.

What to Expect at the Crawfish Boil

The June 6 event offers something for all ages.

In addition to crawfish plates, attendees can enjoy:

  • Open swim opportunities
  • A silent auction
  • A 50/50 raffle
  • The popular "Crawfish Court"
  • Time with neighbors and friends from throughout the community

The fundraiser is open to the public, making it an opportunity not only for current swim team families but also for prospective members and residents interested in learning more about the Lakewood Residents Club.

Tickets are available for $20 per person, which includes event entry, open swimming, and a crawfish or meat plate.

What Happens Next

The Lakewood Lightning's 2026 season continues through the end of June, with swimmers competing weekly against other Northwest Aquatic League teams.

Families interested in learning more about the swim team or the Lakewood Residents Club can attend the fundraiser, meet current members, and discover opportunities to become involved in one of Lakewood Forest North's most active community organizations.

For residents looking for a reason to gather with neighbors and kick off summer, June 6 promises to be a celebration of everything that makes neighborhood life special—community, connection, and kids having fun.
